For me, I think it's the crypto-anarchism and DIY aspects of it. The feeling that you can do almost everything with an appropriate computer and some knowledge is pretty amazing and it's kind of infuriating that people still haven't realized that.
Neon terminals and cyber aesthetics are OK but I think focusing on them is repetitive and even detrimental to real discussion sometimes.

Escapism but at the same time being aware of the corruption and just hypocritical nature of the world. Growing up around technology. I would think most cyberpunks grew up around technology in their childhood.

anti-authoritarianism has always been part of my personality, but I also love technology and philosophy. I think the future of human evolution is the integration of technology into our bodies. I like the DIY aspects of cyberpunk and the self-empowerment that comes from not relying on governments or corporations to get you what you need. High tech and low life seems to make sense to me.
