Were we in a period of time in which mechanical, genetic, etc human augmentation were a thing, what would you want and why?
In my case I would want firstly to replace my right arm from the elbow down. I'd keep the mechanical aug angular and modular, preferably with an integrated double action OTF blade installed in the wrist and the option to place data storage devices in it as well as a small videoscreen. After all, why not be able to use it as a small computer and maybe a replacement for a cellphone? I would also want to genetically harden my skin, at least enough to turn or slow a blade.
I have had some nerve problems in my right hand for some time now, and would simply like to be rid of it. Might as well replace the forearm while I'm at it if it means I can have more usefulness out of the thing don't you think?

Robot lungs so i can smoke without worrying about cancer.
Might as well give me a robot prostate too.
And a robot gf.
Also an artificial eye with 4k HD camera so i can take candid photos of girls i like the look of, so i can look at them later on with my real eye and wish they were my gf instead of my robot gf who's cold, hard vice like mechanical grip stopped being fun and started being very sore and scary.
Sigh.

the problem with a phone implant in your head is that it's always there. right near your brain. Long term effects of microwaves can be pretty nasty.

Proper working extra cyber-eyes, just so I am able to switch between them.
Nanomachines so it can stave off cancer and/or make new augments with the right materials fed to it.
And extra processors in the head and the stomach as well as a hard drive that can actually store human memory. For backup uses.
In short, being able to do the same kind of bullshit like this suave bastard.

Mechanical lungs that filter harmful substances would be pretty neat.
Though a tracheal filter, kind of like an implanted gas mask, might be the better option for better filter cleaning.

Cybernetic eyes would be nice, just for the possibility of enhancing my sight.
Think of me as furry of you may, but it'd be nice to augment my scenting and hearing. The only problems are, as >>48524 has stated, electronic implants in my brain, in general, would put much risk into my life. A proper EMP would literally fry me. I would only continue with the brain implants if there was an option to properly shield your brain, maybe metallic matrices on my skull.
>>48512 (OP)
I wouldn't trade my arm for a robotic one, and since you mentioned hardening your skin, I assume that genetic engineering is also a thing, aside from mech-electrical augmentation. I'd try and have reactive muscle fiber all over my body. Harden them bones, and improve them nerve endings.
>>48517
>>48529
I'd probably end up augmenting all my internal organs. Heck, I know Mother Nature is such a fine creator, but we all know her creations are faulty. Why not get some kidneys and a liver while we're at it? I know that >>48528's nanomachines are neat, but why fix what's already broken? I'd get those nanobots inside me once my organs were upgraded.
A better digestive system that'd let me eat pure metal ingots, raw carbon, and enhanced mitochondria so I'd drink beer and literally burn the alcohol instead of sugar. Probably end up giving up on shitting, maybe only for emergencies when my body would better expel the waste than recycle it.
Sigh. If we're at this level of cyber, I'd change my eye color to light cyan, like the programs' eyes in Tron Legacy. Enhance ol' "Jimmy" down there, and add some sort of system to allow me to fuck them girls I'd fancy without getting them pregnant. Nanobots would fend off STDs.
>>48524
2049's cyber JOI is neat, but I'd never buy her for the sake of not being able to touch her. I find it utterly depressive, when she nuzzles her face on K's neck on the rain, knowing that they'd never really meet.
Unless, you'd include an implant to emulate sensations and feelings into my sad brain. But that'd be only the case if I managed to shield my bio-computer from EMPs.

I think if you're going to have cyber-eyes you might as well have something tied into your processing of the data you see so that contructs created that aren't real can feel real. Tricking your brain like that is one of the easiest things to do.
I dig the idea of improving ones' muscles through artificial means though. I'd personally want to simply engineer them so that I would gain muscle mass faster and gain fat slower. I like the feeling of working for my looks. Helps keep someone humble. Also bear in mind that any kind of genetic changes being made to you that are made outside of the womb are likely to be extremely painful and possibly traumatic to the brain. The body and the nervous system would be more likely to accept biomechanical augmentations. I'd probably have my kidneys and liver replaced to more effectively filter out toxins and eventually my lungs replaced to allow me to breathe water and non-corrosive gasses. Probably also replace or coat parts of my skeletal system in titanium as well. just for kicks.

I hear you on the genetic modifications. But how would they be traumatic to the brain? Replacing all of my skeletal muscle mass with reactive muscle fibers would fuck up my brain that much? I figure I'd spend some months in rehab, just so my nervous system got used to the new parts. But I don't think that it would traumatize my brain. Trauma is a really serious thing here. The only challenge to my nervous system is, as I have previously stated here, the problem of getting used to the new hardware. Just how like folk in "Avatar" had to get used to their "Avatars".
>genetic changes being made to you that are made outside of the womb are likely to be extremely painful and possibly traumatic to the brain
>genetic
The term "Genetic" basically makes it alot safer. How do you think your whole body would react if it just "woke up from surgery" aka "induced coma" and found out that those nice lungs it knew from birth aren't there anymore, replaced by "biomechanical" ones that do all sorts of cool stuff?
When I talk about genetic engineering, I'd change the chromosomes of every single cell in the body, just so that my white cells wouldn't go on a rampage and attack every single other cell that has a different genetic code. And heck, I'm in stasis while all of this happens, the pain goes away. I know we're talking about infecting my body with a super-virus that inserts the genetic improvements into my cells, and I'd be in the same shape as someone fighting AIDS during the latter's post-hibernation period, but under heavy medical care, I wouldn't suffer all that much. Unless you're one of those guys that would rather steal the syringes and inject the mutation into yourself while walking around on the streets. That'd be probably your death.
If those "biomechanical" implants and augments of yours were too much "bio", I bet you immune system would engage on a full-out war. The only way to properly change the human body is from the inside. Change the chromosomes of each cell, and let them do the rest of the work for you, that is, with you providing the resources for them to do so.
The body's cells are machines just that are always ready to perfect themselves. If you just guide them with an improved genetic code, they'd follow.

>how would they be traumatic to the brain?
A lot of ways, really. Your brain can struggle to build the new neural pathways neccessary to regulate anything new, for one, but more likely is the issue with immense pain and its' likelihood to cause a psychotic break or mental/emotional breakdown(how torture works). Ripping apart and restructuring your body on the cellular level would not only be immensely, unimaginably painful, but would also come with a huge risk of clusters of cancer cells forming.
I think the only way to do human augmentation at a genetic level would be in vitro.

Since we're talking complications here, I've been thinking about Gender Dysphoria and it's lesser known but imho more interesting brother Body Dysmorphic Disorder lately.
As a simplified model of how those works, there's basically three groups of people:
1) those whose mental model of their body matches their perception of their body (healthy people)
2) those who do not have particular mental model of their body and accept percepted info as is (also healthy people)
3) just like 1) but there's a mismatch (ones with disorders)
Now, what will happen when we start changing people's bodies around willy-nilly, we will hit group 1) at some point, and they too will get a mismatch with all folowing bonuses like depression and suicidal tendencies.
Maybe there will be a specific term for this (implant dysphoria?), or it will just be lumped into BDD.
To estimate exact potential issues, we will need to know the relative sizes of these groups.
I kinda assume group 2) is biggest one, and 1) is roughly equal in size to 3), but it's just a guess, and wiki says this field isn't well studied yet.
The closest I saw this being explored in media is picrelated complaning about it once, which was a bit underwhelming.

This is basically the problem with every bodymod, be it cyber- or bioware (yeah, using SR terms, blow me).
If a magnet in your finger takes weeks to heal and actually fulfill its functions, one can only wonder what rejection's gonna do to a cyberlung.
On the other hand, inducing a coma for that time will probably solve the problem.
It wouldn't be a "go to the bodyshop in your lunch break to get that schway eye modification" kinda thing, but hell. Biohackers are just starting out. It's up to us to get this shit moving, so sacrifice your meatsacks to science already.

Long time ago I heard about experiments where scientists were able to produce very low resolution visual perception in people using some techno magic and electrical stimulation of sensory nerve endings in tongue.
I was thinking about using benis for higher res version of this, since tip is supposed to be very sensory dense.
Sadly I didn't find any exact numbers and whatever numbers I did find I did not like very much:
- Wikipedia, with a lot of caveats and backtracking, claims that clitoris has ~ 8k nerve endings and penis has half of that.
- if we get this numbers for granted, our best case scenario is 200x200 matrix of nerve endings
- we will want some redundancy, so lets say 150x150 monochrome video input of unknown depth.
For comparison, Gameboy has display of 160x144 pixels with 4 shades of gray. Meanwhile I consider anything less than 640x480 not even worth bothering with.
Playing Super Mario Land on your dick might make for an interesting sex toy, but I guess there's no way around sticking silicon inside your skull if you want to do some serious work.

SARMs are still legal and they are very easy to use. Relatively affordable. And nobody uses needles any more. You can just drink your SARMs and then drink a water chaser to get the taste out of your mouth. But then you still have to lift weights if you want to see any results.

Or if Users want the euthanasia Cybernetic Clinics[TM] could process the disabled into under grade sandwich meat for the financially poor or third world school lunches, after harvesting any somewhat valuable organs of course. Then User bio-scientists can mod the fresh harvested organs with augmentations like for an emergency augmented eye retina replacement.

Adam jensen actually bitched a lot about his implants because he literally didn't want them but he was totally crippled after the attack and his contract had a clause that he would be augmented if necessary.
It is never said it he would've preferred to spend the rest of his days on life support or plain dead tho.
As for your theories I think that if full-body cyborgs like in GITS become a thing then trannies are gonna have a field day that. In the SAC series there's an ep where this guy who constantly moves between male and female bodies. So basically you can be in a cyborg replica of your current body (or your actual body, they never said if you couldn't just transfer your cyberbrain back to your meatbag body) and whenever you feel like sucking a dick or getting DP'd you can transfer to a 10/10 anime girl body like the major's and getting your robot snatch pounded.
That would suck for guys tho since how the hell you can tell who's a dude anymore? forced gender RFID tags on cyberbrains? SJWs would demand those be banned.
