I identify with him and this show on a spiritual level, watching it has genuinely changed my life for the better.

Good goy, identify with main protagonist you self indulgent narcisist. World is just one big movie and you're the main actor, everyone else is an NPC, yes good goy. Now, when you see yourself as main actor we can do everything we want to that main actor and you will still to some level identify with him. YESSSS, don't worry, you wont get his new characteristics….no don't worry this isn't brainwashing.

yesss good goy

What the fuck, guys, don't make fun of the OP.

I honestly identify very heavily with the main character's narrative - Wanting to do what Elliot did to Evil Corp with encrypting all their stuff ransomware was honestly the exact reason I started studying cryptography years before this show came out.

Ever since Lulzsec went under, and Anonymous was broken up by COINTELPRO, nobody trusts anyone else on the internet anymore, and the burden of creative destruction rests on the shoulders of the lone individual.

When it was coming out, I honestly couldn't believe someone had made a show like it. It honestly rubs me the wrong way a lot, because I know I'm the target audience, but I still like it.

A show like this gives people like me an outlet for their frustration, like a ceremonial defeat without actually doing anything. Instead of doing the hack ourselves, watch the TV man do it! There's all these little things I hate about it, like how they made Elliot a drug addict, making his way of seeing the world seem crazy and unstable, and likely leading the viewer to see themselves in the same light. It reminds me of all the stuff that irks me about True Detective, trying to make vices seem cool.

My personal reactions aside, it's also nice to feel less alone, and I think it probably inspired a lot of people to get into cryptography. I saw a lot of Mr. Robot shirts at Defcon, and I even torrented a new episode of it while I was there, and watched it with a random group of people all huddled around my laptop. It was pretty cool, and my personal qualms aside it's made a positive impact on the morale of hacktivists and fosspunks alike.

No it really hasn't. I was at dc23 and no there weren't a bunch of Mr. Robot shirts, but a ton of tiny goatse stickers…

Anyways. The general impression I've gotten (myself and most of my dc circle of friends) is of mild ridicule. But, that's just like my opinion man. No, it's not that people don't trust each other anymore, but rather people have learned how to assemble into more inconspicuous groups. SO essentially, gone to ground. Can't speak for lulzsec, but Anonymous is still there, but good luck trying to wade through all the tryhards who slap on a guy fawkes mask and co-opt their style for their own purposes. But that is the exact reason they chose that manner of branding themselves. Now it's like finding a stack of a needles in a stack of needles. Which one is the oldfag member and who are the splinter skriptkidds that prattle around with their pineapples and rubberduckies and Hak5 stickers with semi-political dribble coming out of their mouths.

Yes, you can say I'm ornery and foul tempered. But it's kinda like Project Mayhem effect. You won't know any of the details unless you involve yourself. A level of involvement beyond fanboying for something, whether it's cyb, or a character.

Instead… do something. Don't just sit and watch.

Oh for crying out loud.

You pathetic shitstains *should* identify yourselves with a melodramatic cyber durden.

This guy cries because he is alone, instead of cherishing it. Fuck it, he cries at all.

He gets into relationships and, dear god, longs for people.

He eats drugs because corporations should not control your life, but drug dealers should.

He has astute intellectual observations like 'the world has bugs'.

His way of sticking it to the man (who is, apparently, evil for evilness sake) involves deleting everyone's debt records. Because that would only hurt banks, right? Wrong. It means that credit cards stop working, small businesses loose access to cheap loans. That brings down purchasing power and leads to soaring prices and shitnormous layoffs. That last part also brings with it a crimewave of epic proportions. Oh, and banks? These guys will rebound, get bailed out or others will take their place while the oldtimers rest in their lush villas. But it's all worth it because you get to fuck a haxxor chick and hangout with a mental apparition of your dad.

And seriosly, stop looking for COINTELPRO everywhere. These guys exist, yes, but to attract them you need to present, you know, a genuine threat. Or at least speak arabic. Maybe, whoever tells you you are an idiot and your post is stupid is not motivated by some sinister agenda.

 No.42513

2nd season premiere was ok. got away with like 4 or 5 uncensored "fucks" on basic cable tv, which i feel like is a first.

I don't view it as supposedly revolutionary or possessing some kind of altruistic underlying message. I mean it's basically just a slightly updated fight club for disaffected millenials instead of gen-xers but it's a decent little tech thriller.

 No.42517

>>42513

>I don't view it as supposedly revolutionary or possessing some kind of altruistic underlying message.

I don't think anybody is holding it up as some kind of holy writ; it's a fun tv show with some cool tech stuff in it. In that vein, it can serve basically the same inspirational purpose that, say, the movie War Games, does. Which is to say, it's something I can watch when I don't feel like doing anything, and it might get me in the mood to learn a new language, work on a project, or just practice.

WTF are you on about? Whose eyes except your own do you see out of? Everyone else *IS* an NPC compared to you (from your perspective as an individual). And it's the same for everyone. I am one person only and everyone else is not me. I treat them with respect because I choose to. Same with dogs. I'm not a dog–from my perspective dogs are NPCs–but I still treat them well. Being an individual doesn't make you a sociopath.

It means that credit cards stop working, small businesses loose access to cheap loans. That brings down purchasing power and leads to soaring prices and shitnormous layoffs.

This part is relevant, observe countries that went through an economic collapse because suddenly all debt was either wiped out, pardoned by populists or just deemed junk because nobody would pay

Then you have a country like greece which went from first world to total chaotic shithole with people dying from simple cancers because even hospitals can't afford the meds

People who reduce all problems to "muh debt" tend to be whiny shits who buy stupid crap and can't pay their CC bill, they don't understand shit about economics

>That last part also brings with it a crimewave of epic proportions

Indeed, just look at fucking bitcoin: every single motherfucker involved is a shady scammer

That exchange that just got 70 million stolen from them? nobody knows who the fucking CEO is, there isn't even a picture, the CFO was a scam artist that went to jail in italy and the company (bitfinex) operates in hong kong but has its bank in taiwan, its servers in italy and is incorporated in some shitty backwater tax heaven islands

And that's just the last of too-many-to-remember bitcoin companies that suddenly go to shit/get "hacked" and all the brouzouf disappears

And people then bitches about banks….

also it helps to have a look at page two of google search results:

>It's recently been revealed that the U.S. government contracted HBGary Federal for the development of software which could create multiple fake social media profiles to manipulate and sway public opinion on controversial issues by promoting propaganda.

>According to an embedded MS Word document found in one of the HBGary emails, it involves creating an army of sockpuppets, with sophisticated "persona management" software that allows a small team of only a few people to appear to be many, while keeping the personas from accidentally cross-contaminating each other. Then, to top it off, the team can actually automate some functions so one persona can appear to be an entire Brooks Brothers riot online.

>On January 20, the coder wrote back, “I’m not compiling that shit on my box!” He even refused to grab a copy of the source code from message boards or other IRC users, because “I ain’t touchin’ any of that shit as those are already monitored.”

>“Dude,” responded Barr. “Anonymous is a reckless organization. C’mon I know u and I both understand and believe generally in their principles but they are not a focused and considerate group, the[y] attack at will and do not care of their effects. Do u actually like this group?”

>The coder said he didn’t support all they did, but that Anonymous had its moments. Besides, “I enjoy the LULZ.”

 No.43771

The ending felt a bit rushed with tyrell showing up out of nowhere, his cunt of a wife getting rekt on purpose to further ruin that guy's life, elliot going bananas thinking tyrell was an illusion as well but the worst part was when the fat guy and the arab chick get a visit from the magical negro ninja who was supposed to be still in jail. First of if you gonna run why would you keep your appearance still intact? that fat guy should have at least get a haircut and ditch the beard, and the arab girl while she wasn't using her burka could have died her hair or cut it short, whatever. Also if you are being chased by an international criminal organization you don't fucking work 9-5 at fry's, you stay holed up in an apartment and do anonymous web jobs to stay low.

Anyway, and what with elliot's childhood friend (you know the forgettable blond chick, cant remember her name) going from "I'm gonna talk to the feds!" to being so integral to the group that she actually talks to tyrell/white rose at the end about elliot not being dead after getting shot at like a fag?

I agree, I am very disappointed with season 2. Especially the finale.

On retrospective, it really wasn't *that* insubstantial, but why did it feel like that?

No big hax seemed to be pulled oh, yeah, the FBI hack however there wasn't much of a follow up.

No significant plot-twists but the elliot being in the slammer the whole time, which just explains why nothing at all happened half of the season, not much tension Besides the FBI closing in on them, and when Agent Dom finds Darlene and his bf, probably one of the few good parts, Tyrell was fucking absent from the whole show, one of the main characters throughout is fucking not there at all.

I think it mostly has to do with the fact that there was almost no character development, and the whole plot was inmersed in ellipsis.

I actually did like the development of Angela Moss in this season, really the only thing that caught my interest. her interview with WR and her sudden involvement in the plan, Esmail should drop the Elliot and Tyrell characters in favor of her, make her the new leader

 No.44121

Season 1 was fanfuckintastic imo. Almost every episode was not only right up my alley as far as film and real-world interests go, but they always had that one scene or that one cliffhanger that made you go "holy shit" when the credits started rolling. I love shows like that, Breaking Bad being similar in that regard. I also adore the scenes that challenge real-world society and corporations, which had the same vibe as Fight Club and Uwe Boll's Rampage movies. By the way, if you love these mechanics in Mr. Robot, you'll love Uwe Boll's Rampage movies, not to be confused with the older, unrelated Rampage movies.

Anyway, Season 2 is still good, but not nearly as good as Season 1. Yes, they took away focus on Elliot and Tyrell, which is quite sad seeing as how they're the most interesting characters, but I still have high hopes for Season 3, which is currently in production.

 No.44126

I feel ya. And it probably would have done the same for me as well, if Breaking Bad didn't already do that for me since I saw that first. In fact, the two shows have a lot of similarities as far as characters, vibe, cliffhangers etc., goes. Though I thought BB had superior acting and camera work.
