Hoy chummers!
So the idea was thrown and why not putting some ideas here to make a cyberpunk game?
There are plenty of game engine available.

No.26183

Probably would be the easiest to have a large group working on something like an adventure game. Something like an FPS would end up having the game essentially made by a few people and everyone else would be left out.
also I like adventure games

Even assuming everyone on this thread knew how to make a game, it would at the very least be Black Mesa vaporware-tier. It would be more realistic to find a not too complex, easy to mod game and throw in a cyberpunk story/art direction and additional cyberpunk game mechanics like hacking.

There are lots of sotries in the "-punk" genres that focus too much in one breaktrough new technology that changes everything, instead of taking a more plausible route and addidng a bit of everything.

No.26350
I was thinking about this
You are a simple guy who fix coffee machines. But, syntho coffee machine are all linked in some sort of matrix, like everything in the world. Every machine or brand is a part of a big corpo.
You're a freelancer coffee machine fixer. You have a small condo and a cat.
Some big corp ask you to investigate theyre machine because there is some bug/brouzouf stolen. They think one of it's employee hacked a machine. You go see and jack you in the syntho coffee network. (From 2D point &click you go to 3d virtual world)
Then you find that little insignificant coffee machine hack is eventually a breach of some sort used by an elite hacker team to steal some new tech information etc..
unfortunatly the evil organisation of elite hacker followed your path and try to kill you, maybe erase you from the network. You are a hobo that need little havking jobs to survive then find who are they, why they tried to kill you, what technology are they tryin to steal, etc.. And where is your damn cat.
No.26351
>>26350
Maybe the stolen technology was uploaded in your augmented brain after you discover an intruder on the network.
You were ringing the alarm and hés been killed by demon guards of the corpo.
But he uploaded the stolen informations into you and that's why they try to find you.

And here we have a first part simple and fun that can be considered a tutorial.
(Going from your condo to the corpo, basics of hacking etc)
Someone try to kill you and you learn basics of action mechanics.
Then you are on your own trying to survive.
And by the way there is a plot twist because the evil hackers who stole things and try to kill you are in fact the good guys and you finally go with them to fuck the system.

As a shortcut that works, but usually its a mixture of that+touchups at minimum.
Redrawing either from RL or from scratch gives the best results though, specially if you want to keep the style coherent (ie sprites don't clash with backgrounds).

I put together this track from nothing but a bunch of weird samples I have and a ton of effects. It sounds /cyber/ as all hell to me, but it's completely bizarre. If there's a surreal point in the game, I suggest that it may work well in that. Otherwise, if no one likes it, I won't be buttmad.

If I may offer one criticism, it's that the distorted glitch sound that comes in at around 17 seconds is a little too prevalent/frequent.

nobody might bother with this idea now, but I still think it's worth giving a shot
Anybody thought of making a hacking simulator set in a cyberpunk future?
The only good hacksim that comes to mind is Uplink, and that game was released in 2001. Think about it, hacksims don't require much art but some simple 2D graphics for your desktop, the console (if there will be one), and some icons, company logos etc.
HackSims have a very minimal art requirement, and ideas can be quickly implemented compared to a point&click or 3D game.
I have a vague idea of the mechanics, world, and general interactions between other hackers and companies, but in the end it's just another idea. HackSims don't require much manpower either (Uplink was made by like 2 or 4 guys) Remember what made Uplink good and what could be improved on it.
Just make sure the OS you would be running is Unix-based, no true hacker is going to use DRM-infected corporate software.

>Deus Ex's style of story
>Neotokyo's aesthetics and music
>Work as either a Police enforcer, Samurai ninja or Illuminati trooper in Tokyo in 2202
>Open world, able to travel around Tokyo in either first or third person
>Take various jobs around the area and take part in territory wars which would differ between factions
>The Police siege large block towers from the ground-up all guns blazing
>The Samurai crush the morale of the enemy by killing leaders and using fear tactics, like gas and hanging people off of lamp posts
>The Illuminati engage in information warfare and fight through a computer by hacking into databases, stealing information and holding secrets ransom
>The goal is either to restore complete order, reinstate the Imperial reign over Japan or to unleash the NWO
That is how the perfect cyberpunk game shall one day be made.
//Post 2:
You could join the Police by going to an enlistment center while the Police are in a losing battle against crime and they train you to be a crime purging machine.
The Samurai you could join by changing the way you play, following Bushido with your decisions will let them take notice and they will send you a letter to survey your interest in becoming a ninja.
The Illuminati would follow something that an anon said in another thread, it would be subtle horror- you would use the computer and find something similar to Cicada 3301, if you followed various steps and completed various tasks, you would be given a cryptic set of instructions on how to become "enlightened" and join the Illuminati by way of their hidden HQ.
Those ideas would likely be far too huge for anyone but a large dev to make, but we can dream- right?

don't really want any full background things, pretty much just the type of backgrounds I've been making, but ones that look good. animating lights or what have you would be fine
No.34573
Okay, before I do any animations and what not, I decided to do a quick sketch for the redraw I'm planning of the bedroom OP originally posted.
Again, this is a very quick, and admittedly so, rough sketch. However it showcases 3 things I want to improve upon OP's vision.
1 Depth Perception
Op's original bedroom concept looks too flat and 2d to me. I can see on the triangular arches he drew along the wall he tried to convey depth, so I decided to take it a step further.
2 add utility and character to the room
The room looks like it's nothing more but a place to sleep in. It almost feels like it has no one living it. So I decided to add some furniture to the place and a gun, to show that the character uses the room.
3 I felt that the room is too big
From what I'm getting the vibe of, is that this is a full blown dystopian cyberpunk world. And so I don't think it's fitting for a normal denizen in such a marginalized place of society as I'm imagining to have such a big room. Of course that's what I'm imagining the protag's background will be,not what it is in the OP's mind.
If the op likes the concepts the sketch is conveying I'll clean this sketch up, and if he likes the cleaned up version I'll color it to completion.
For now this is all I'll do for today, and tomorrow I'll upload another sketch for a redraw.

Wait until the modding tools come out for Fallout 4, and do a total conversion. That game already has decent RPG features set up and we can use the work of modders that are already working on bugfixes and additional features. Also it looks pretty as fuck and has power armor built in.
Coders can set up a blank overworld for artfags to build in and replace weapons and gear with new models. In fact, it might be possible to build the overworld using the in-game settlement tools.
Don't bother starting from scratch, total conversion is the only realistic way.
tl;dr
>coders get blank world working for artfags
>artfags make assets and build cyberpunk city streets etc

but pretty much any engine is better, simply due to how much more you can do with it. AGS is a good engine for specific things and it has a good gui, the only problem is that you don't have enough freedom with the game

What's the easiest contemporary 3D engine to mod?
Gary's Mod? GTA?
Anything we can put a lot of neon and rain-slick streets into.
Remember, it's always three in the morning, it's always raining, and everybody is wearing mirrorshades.

there is OpenMW which has good dynamic lighting, can run on slow machines and linux.
but i thought the original idea was to make a really simple 2d adventure?

they're proprietary, moron.

Just finished Technobabylon.
That game is really good it made me scratch my head more than once.
It gives good example on how a cyberpunk point&clic can be.

I've got an idea for a little story more like a minigame.
Name is GeneStealer,
In a future ruled by mega corporations, industrial espionage and technology thefts are commonplace. And private polices are employed to recover what has been stolen.
You play a corp (corporate cop) that is sent to bring back a stolen experimental gene.
The game is simple, you are in the shitty part of the town and must reach the last floor of a building to arrest/kill the theft.
Of course the story is a little more complex.
I visualize the graphics being like the game Flashback. With cutscenes for each action, i like the rotoscopic style they used.

Hello gentlemen. Very new fag here, can't be assed to read the entire thread so have instead skimmed.
I see the intention is to make a classic scrolling-style adventure game. This is okay, but you're really wasting time and resources when you could be handling movement as a tile-based first person crawler. The type that you'd see in classics like Circuit's edge, SMT, snatcher and the like. This still allows for backgrounds, while cutting down the need for time consuming character animations and activities. Characters can show up as a single graphic and do their shit in text boxes. Handle environment/item interactions also in this manner, and you'll also cut down on the confusion and lag time often associated with adventure games (IE: What objects in the scene can be interacted with? What items can interact with these objects? Much more intuitive when it's operated like this). A tile based perspective like this is also very nostalgic and reminiscent of the roaming gameworld passable in cyberpunk. So that's my vote
okay? Okay. You can emulate this through VN engines like Ren'py, or even text adventure engines like INFORM. But this is getting off topic
I don't know what the plot you guys have in mind. I am just going to add what I think would be a neat concept: Take a open/roaming world environment. Have a possibly sociopathic alienated loner type being compelled to kill targets as in dreamweb. Make it in X days or the world will end or something as in Darkseed. Have a hallucinatory technology-alters-reality-and-the-brain mechanic as in videodrome only this time with computers (these hallucinations being like sleep paralysis and invading waking life in not easily discernible ways). Have a wired-invades-real-life thing going on as in lain. And have a bunch of augmented secret police going around for a meritocratic-THX style dystopia as in GITS/Deus Ex
addendum. Wizchan tried writing a VN of cyberpunkish stripe a while ago I was privy to. The concept was a conforming, aging bureaucrat guy in a interventionist on a distant star counting down days until his retirement. It's the welfare state on steroids because machines have gotten rid of everyone's job only the Asian-inspired cosmic empire wants everybody in social harmony. A weird platonic-pseudodaughter relationship with an up and coming female bureaucrat he meets on the trains one day, and how they explore the abandoned and built-over undercity to escape the drudgery of everyday life (the protragonist actually lives in it). Character design is sort of an inverted Rick Deckard/bladerunner guy. He's got the same kind of interventionist-detective job, only he's not the stronger man.
Just some thoughts. I could go on but whatever. Take some or leave all?
No.40263
>>40260
and by the way. I'm willing to work as a WRITER, and long as the concept isn't totally shit to me.

Circuit's Edge ! i need to reinstall it now.
There was also Shadowrun on Sega CD like this.
Great idea btw.
The first idea was about a guy that fix coffee machines. He got a contract to fix a software issue with a machine in a megacorp office. he plug himself to it's matrix and find some hackers found a way to bypass the security of the corp by going through the coffe machines network. He bump into the hackers that have stolen some top secret files and just before they are fried by the daemon guards, a hackers upload the files in that repair man. He is disconnected and pass out. The megacorp security don't want this mess to spread so they erase his memory of the day. They don't find the files hidden and encrypted in his brain chip. He wakes up the next day at home completely unaware that he has the most sensitive file in his head.
then shit happens you know like someone try to kill him he is saved by a techno assassin bimbo a la neuromancer etc.
