My opinion on guns is werid.
On one hand, I favour strict gun controls, since I'm a eurofag, and that's what we already have here.
On the other hand, I do appreciate the skill of marksmanship and the aspect of how firearms function and their history.
I wouldn't mind getting into stuff like air rifle and air pistol target shooting. I might even be tempted by clay pigeon shooting.

And I used to sort of go in part way for the "self defense" thing, but nah - the weakest, most vulnerable members of society cannot reliably defend themselves with guns and can actually run higher risk of escalating stuff. In this regard, the self-defense line is a shameful con.
I favor current gun controls, but think they need to be enforced - I get the impression that part of the problem with background checks and stuff like that in sales is that many sellers are simply neglecting to do what they're supposed to since there's little actual, consistent oversight. Beyond that, I think we could enact "trial periods" on some guns - semi-automatics, why not. Basically, if they can't be responsible with it for like a 2 week period then they probably shouldn't have it - and it would have to be clear cut so you could not feasibly slip political bias into the process.
Also, the NRA are a bunch of shills for the industry who at this point whine almost as much about marijuana and the evils of socialism as they do about how other people's dead children are getting too much attention. Absolutely appalling bunch of fags, the NRA, and it's a shame we have so few 2nd amendment supporters around who aren't blithering retards ready to shit on literally any other right or freedom we have.
All that said, the citizenry needs to arm. A problem is that all we've got is gun-loving bootlickers who wave them around or periodically go berserk. Few, if any, militias would be prepared to oppose the tyranny of our own government - although they threw a few tantrums for the 8 years that our tyrant was black, I guess. I don't trust this government to ban semi-automatics, and raising the age of ownership is unironically even worse since it directly denies the constitutional rights of all majority age citizens rather than targeting a particular weapon.
Personally, I think we can do it - arm up civilian militias, and run gun screenings like we actually mean it.

Europe is a weird mix of different overall policies in this regard.
Britain and (the Republic of) Ireland has unarmed police (although there are still specialised firearms police units which can respond to certain incidents), and they would typically be the police you see patrolling town streets, managing traffic and whatever.
I would say that the idea of a civilian militia is still a very American in the modern sense. Most European states have strong consitiutional controls with a strong rule of law (where the people can take the government to court over being unconstitutional).
At any rate, it a functional society should not need self-defence with lethal weapons, nor should it really need to have people sitting and waiting to wage a civil war against the government.

Well, there are always workarounds. AFAIK the current trend is to make acarbine that is legally a "pistol" and sell it with a "pistol brace" that is totally not a stock. But for guns not sold as pistols it does suck. I would be more tempted to get a P90 and look like a dumb weeaboo on the range if I didn't then have to go through the pain of uncucking it and making it an SBR.

Of course, even the pistol brace loophole is limited, since e.g. putting a vertical foregrip on obviously makes it completely different and far more babykilling.
At least we don't have to worry about this, since AFAIK there's no distinction between handguns, stocked handguns, and SBRs in our laws. For that matter, AR-15s are in the same category anyway, so there's no difference whatsoever between a 20" AR and a 10" one. And since carry is illegal too, there's no practical considerations to be had, so the choice between a short-barrelled pistol-calibre carbine versus a normal handgun is simply a matter of taste in range toys. Got to look for silver linings, however thin they may be.
Though we have some particular deranged laws regarding modifying a rifle into an SBR:
>Barrel greater 18.5" is unrestricted, pending various other regulations like the hundreds of per-model bans
>Barrel less than 18.5", but manual action and/or rimfire is also unrestricted
>Barrel less than 18.5", semi-auto centrefire is restricted, including a previously-unrestricted gun modified to below this threshold
>Barrel less than 18", semi-auto centrefire, out of the factory which is further shortened remains restricted
>Barrel less than 18" that passes that threshold through after-factory modification is prohibited, regardless of action or cartridge
>Barrel less than 18" out of the factory, replaced with a barrel over 18", then brought back down below 18", is prohibited
Cutting a rifle from 20" down to 18.1" is legal as long as your register it. Cutting it down another 0.2" is a felony. Meanwhile, taking a 17.9" rifle and cutting it down to 8" is just fine. That also applies to aftermarket but professionally-manufactured barrels, not just cutting one down yourself.
Note that there are cases where it is literally impossible to determine what category a gun belongs to. If you purchase a receiver for a rimfire gun and add a 16" barrel, you don't even have to register it, since it was "manufactured" at that length. You replace it with a 20" barrel, then put the original 16" back in. Since it was modified to be less than 18", it has become prohibited.
