Thinking about purchasing the Braun Silk Epil 9

Is it a good purchase? or are there better epilators out there?

The main reason I want this one is because it catches really short hairs which would be nice

I think that it is pretty much the best epilator there is. I used it for a while.

Personally though I find shaving to be a lot easier. Give the epilator a try if you don't mind the price though.

I got this one from Emjoi a few months ago. I just re-did my arms yesterday. I'm naturally a hairy person, and this has helped me out a lot -though it was very painful to make progress. I'm thinking of leaving the chest to wax and creams though.

If your hair is very coarse you have to be mindful of the epilator ripping the hair off as opposed to tearing it out by the root. It's good to also use a hair grow inhibitor cream daily as well.

People bitch about the pain, but it really isn't bad after you get used to the sensation.

The real issue is that it takes fucking forever depending on how your hair is and how often you've been doing it. It took me an hour just to get one half of my leg fully done the first time around.

The other thing they don't tell you about is the noise. Imagine a jet engine going off inside your bathroom.

Basically there's no way to do it discreetly.

I would describe it more like an electric-powered weed-eater being used to break apart porcelain bricks.

In any case, the pain is mostly due to individual variation. I have huge follicles , extremely course hair, and they're like 1/8th" deep; many of them bleed. A lot of guys who have finer hair don't have much trouble with it.

so…

I was extraordinarily drunk last night and ordered the thing in OP.

I don't even know why really. I don't do my legs or arms but I do like to be clean on my pubic areas.

Will this thing work for that? I've tried waxing, sugaring, and shaving there but my problem is that I get pustules that form after a few days. It doesn't even seem like they are ingrown hairs but they are gross and I let my hair grow back then. I've tried using creams and exfoliators but nothing has really helped..will this thing prevent that?

okay sorry for the graphic photo but you know information is power…

so I got this thing a few days ago and have used it twice. the pain is really indescribable.

IT HURTS A FUCKING LOT.

it is much different from the pain of waxing which just feels like your hair is being pulled…this feels like you are being shredded.

I'm following a guide some gril wrote about the proper way to epilate your legs. she said use it every other day at the beginning and not worry about getting everything. she also goes into exfoliating and some treatments she uses. the shit she recommended is super expensive though so I'm just using Bactine spray and also a topical cortizone cream. this photo is literal seconds after finishing tonight so everything is really fired up. by the morning the swelling will be gone but I'll have red spots. I'm just hoping I don't break out. I'll keep you posted.

I use this.

It can't pull very short hairs, and it takes a very long time due to the low tweezer count.

But it works, and it's pretty light on the pain. You have to go back over the area a bunch of times to get everything smooth, but if you break it up throughout the week/month you should be fine.

[blush] thanks for taking an interest in my pubic region…

okay so update: I'm on day 5 and epilation 3 today. pic is the before left and after right. I also took a pic of the epilator after one quick pass to show just how much this thing is removing…it is pretty efficient unlike waxing where a lot of hairs would get left behind. if you run this thing over a hair that is not too long or too short that hair is coming out. after three times I am pretty much hairless. I have red spots where the follicles are but after the act is done there is no residual pain or sensitivity. haven't gotten any pimples yet…I am exfoliating like a fiend twice a day with a fake loofah. I am using aspercreme with lidocaine before epilating. it hurts but less each time because there is less there to pull. I am still using a cortizone cream twice a day to hopefully get rid of the redness.

I tried to do parts of my scrotum today but it hurts too much and I'm afraid I'll catch something since there are smaller structures if you know what I mean. not a big deal though as shaving there is easy and doesn't end up itchy and stubbly like the pubic triangle does.. I'll post more if anything interesting comes up.

have this exact one or a very similar model. Was originally for 150$ but on sale for 90$ in maple money and free expedited shipping. Came with a bunch of stuff like an expholiation extension and a separate battery powered facial expholiator as well as a few other things. Does a really good job and seems to be very good quality especially for my level of body hair. Painful but worth it.

I do my upper arms, back and shoulders as well as upper legs stomach and parts of my chest. Also my feet too. The pain really get's easier. Usually once every few weeks but sometimes you can miss hairs or they break instead of being pulled out in which case it will feel like they're growing back way faster even though it's only a small percentage of hairs. It's very painful so you may end up only doing it one part at a time early on so don't expect to just go all in the first day unless you're hard as fuck or something. I honestly haven't done crotch because I just don't think I can handle the pain the way my hair is. My guess is it responds very fucking poorly and you may in fact be better off waxing that part.

My epilator was well worth the 90$ I paid, body hair is so gross and being smooth is amazing and makes you feel so sexy…

I own this and its fairly good. Just remember to always use many after products and exfoliate the skin often. Otherwise you end up with those red bumps. But its so smooth when done correctly.

Just hurts extremely bad when first starting to use it compared to shaving, but as later, is easier and better result overall.

How the fuck do you people handle this? I've been trying to slowly epilate bit by bit for a week now and I just can't. I actually can't recall anything in my life that has hurt this much. I'd rather break some fingers again, because that would hurt less than this shit. I thought I had a fairly high pain tolerance, too. Am I just doing something wrong? I've been reading guides on this a lot and have tried all kinds of different suggestions.

>tried dry epilating

>tried using a hair dryer to make the hair/skin extra dry because supposedly that makes it easier to rip it out cleanly

>tried doing it immediately after a warm shower

>tried doing it after soaking in a warm bath

>both before and after letting my hair dry

>tried moving the epilator fast

>tried moving the epilator slow

>tried straight back-and-forth motions

>tried circular motions

>tried highest speed on epilator

>tried lowest speed on epilator

>tried without any oils, soap, gels, etc on my skin

>tried with shaving cream

>exfoliate religiously

>moisturize religiously

>still get pic related

I tried just powering through the pain, but eventually it gets to the point where my skin feels like it's on fire and is actually hot to the touch. The skin will stay hot for like nearly an hour after trying to do it. It also seems to be breaking off a lot of hairs rather than pulling them out.

You might just have a shitty epilator if it's breaking the hairs off like that. I've got one that was like $100+ and most importantly is wet/dry capable.

The best process I can figure is this:

1) Use a precision shaver to trim down the hairs to a uniform short length; I find 3-5mm is good.

2) Wait a day or two for your skin and hairs to relax.

3) Take a hot shower, and wash the area you're going to epilate with a gentle soap, but only using your hands not anything abrasive, and then rinse off.

4) Use the epilator, and if you think you're going slow enough, you're NOT. It's snail speed or even less — something like an inch should take 20-30 seconds. Hold it at about a 90-degree angle to the skin and move against the grain of hair growth; no back-and-forth or in circles, either, just slow as possible in a straight line. Like mowing a lawn. The best thing here is to listen to it; when you go too fast it'll pull too many hairs at once and you can hear it slow down, and that's what you want to avoid. I sometimes find that using the entire width of the epilator, even moving as slow as I can, still pulls too many hairs at once, so I'll just use half of it.

5) Seriously, go slow. One area (crotch, belly, one thigh) will probably take over an hour.

6) Brush the hairs out of the epilator frequently to keep it from getting clogged, and let the warm water rinse the loose hairs off the area you're epilating, but DON'T TOUCH it.

7) When you're done, crank down the water temperature to cool (not cold) and rinse the area again.

8) Get out of the shower and don't even look at your towel. You MUST drip-dry the area that you've just epilated, because your towel ain't fucking clean even if you've just washed it, and pimples and a rash in a freshly epilated area comes from wiping it with a towel I can almost guarantee.

9) It's best to do this on a weekend or something because if you've epilated a private area you're going to need to sit around nude for a while in order to dry, and as long as possible is best.

10) Clean the epilator thoroughly by brushing out the hairs, washing in hot water, and then rinsing in cold water and also letting drip dry, and then putting it somewhere enclosed when dry. Don't touch the business end of it, either. Any bacteria gets on the thing, it'll transfer directly to your injured skin next time you epilate. It's like performing open surgery: the most important thing is to avoid contaminating the area.

Kind of weird because i have very thick coarse hairs and i just powered through it on my lower legs. Nothing makes the pain easier except not focusing on it, I would just listen to a podcast and think about things while epilating and i was less painful cause i wasn't paying as much attention. Other than that nothing really makes it better I just advise to make sure your legs are clean before you epilate and then avoid hot showers for 24-48 hours to avoid infections in the hair follicle which it looks like you may have in that pic. Epilating anywhere else other than like legs and maybe stomach is suicidal to me and undoable. All these anons epilating their pubes are crazy to me, that type of shit should be done by professionals who can advise you the proper creams/habits and do the treatment itself properly so you don't end up fucking up your skin afterwards.

You guys should try sugar waxing. Once you get the formula down it works fantastic and is so much less painful than epilating it's almost incomparable.

You're not wrong unfortunately. But I do think there's a big mental aspect that some people will be able to overcome and others won't. For me, my brain rebels more so due to the fact that I'm intentionally inflicting the pain, and not so much that the pain is actually unbearable. If I could just tell my brain to chill and let me hurt myself I'd be able to go through with it. I'd still recommend the practice to everyone though. The results are leaps and bounds better than shaving and the like. Weeks of smooth and no prickly itching and scratching when it comes back in. I just gotta stop being a huge pussy.

I have this same one. Can't say I've come across any negatives whatsoever. Also it came with a trimmer attachment which is fucking awesome, cause I bitch out a lot of the time and that's a good fall back to at least trim my hair short again.

I loved Laser Hair Removal. I did two full body sessions which has impacted my life greatly. You need about 5-8 sessions to be a hairless runt, as your hair grows in cycles/waves. The nice lady even agreed to do my bp/bepis because, "I'm too old to care anymore" as she says ^^

Results are 100% worth it. saves you money in the long run if you constantly use shaving supplies. I did the math, factoring in time spent shaving at minimum wage, and I'm saving at least $120 a year from the laser. The more you laser, the less you'll shave - eventually stopping entirely.

Be careful. this hair will not come back. I decided to not do my face and calves/lower legs incase I wanted leg hair into my old age

Any good ideas for deal with pain? I'm teetering on getting the one from >>319225

My only idea now is to take some anxiety meds since usually I don't feel pain as much on them, that or take a general pain killer.

Yeah, I don't understand this. I've been wanting to be rid of my body hair since I started growing them. Twenty fucking years I've wished I could go back to being ten-years-old again.

This is not laser hair removal. This is Intense pulsed light (IPL). This reduces hair but does not removes it. It's not definitive as laser hair removal.
