Some of the articles written about the manuscript mention that the editor is conservative. It's pretty standard practice in publishing to match the politics of a project with the politics of an editor to avoid cutting something simply because they disagree with it.

I can see why they were frustrated, though, having read the first thirty pages. His writing unfocused, his pop-culture jokes are really bad and typical, and he doesn't bother to source claims unless he can reference them to a Breitbart article.

If that one comment is enough to convince you that a publisher paid him an advance just so they could leftypol NO U the whole thing, you clearly don't know how the editing process works for a major publisher.

The problem was they expected Milo to actually backup his arguments, which most of the editors' notes pertain to. But it looks like he didn't take the advice, even when he self-published the book.

It was public knowledge he was paid an advance when the book was announced. That's a fairly common practice in publishing when you expect something to sell well. The specific amount was even mentioned several times in the court documents. Not sure why this upsets you so much, though, unless you really, really like Milo or something.
