How serious do you think those threats by the fandom are? On the one hand, I imagine those shippers to all be like Chris-Chan. The Overwatch thing is really mind-bending. In the past video game characters were really just stand-ins for the player or plays on stereotypes from movies. No one really cared about the backstory of Ryu from Street Fighter, he was just "the karate dude" and the backstory in the manual was just some generic blurb for added flavour. All right, I'll go ahead and throw a fandom into this conversation that I believe is borderline lolcow/ween, while the majority of the fanbase isn't on tumblr, a lot of people from the website pretty much migrated to the main fansite so I feel that it is relevant enough to this topic to post about. It's the MOTHER/Earthbound fandom. I've talked a little bit about it on other topics on /cow/ and I was surprised to see how many people here see them as downright horrible. Even /v/ doesn't like them.
I'll keep it brief:
