The failures of the past a easy to see for everyone and we learn from the mistakes. The present has brought us man new advances, such as better medicine, better technology, you get the idea. Progressives are just like that, but they idealize the future. So if people in the past were able to make mistakes and be on the wrong side of history, what is it that makes progressives think that something is good just because it is new? There was time when lobotomy was the universal cure for all sorts of ailments, it was supposed to be the future of neurosurgery. Yet today we look at lobotomy with horror.

Progressives imagine time to be like a straight line. We are here, everything back there is old and deprecated, and everything up there is good. The truth is that time is like a maze, and sometimes people pick the wrong turn and it gets ugly. I can problematize the past through sociology. The past as most people are likely to view it nowadays is from a nationalist context. That isn't to say that it's a bad thing but it isn't a very solid foundation as that same past can change its connotation due to national needs. It's also good to keep in mind that we can't think of a nation in a past farther than 5-6 centuries ago.

There is a good way to objectify history which is to first disregard the nationalist idea of how history is. Second problem with the foundation of history as we view it is that we do in comparatively. In that regard we can see the present as the ultimate form of development while the past is the completely primitive society. If you then take that standpoint that is mostly scientific and place it in the view of nationalism, it would mean that there's a certain point in history which is idolized and considered the ideal for the current national context. A specific France could consider Napoleon the Second to be the ultimate height of French history. The UK could consider its height as an empire on 4 continents as its historical ideal.

Keep in mind, there is nothing wrong with the historical connotations but they are not a solid basis as nationalism takes different directions over time.

Sam gets a show on AS and it does well and he ends up getting a second season. He also has the patronage of Mike Lazzo, IE king of Adult Swim too, making him basically him set for life.

Joe Bernstein, a bitter as fuck Buzzfeed writer who has a huge grudge against Sam after Sam defused a hit piece Bernstein ran against him and publicly castrated him. Bernstein forms an alliance with Brad Gelman, an actor at Adult Swim who's specials got shit ratings and had not been able to get any new specials greenlighted. Gelamn also got laughed out of AS when he tried to get them to give his talentless wife a TV show, in terms of exploiting an ongoing smear campaign by places like The Mary Sue, attacking AS for not having any shows written or produced by women creators to get his wife work AND use his wife as front to get his rejected ideas for specials greenlighted.

Like most drama queens, Gelman realized that his career at AS was dead and decided to publicly quit with a big temper tantrum rather than admit that he was persona non grata with AS. As part of his big suicide note, he "swore he'd never work with AS again" and claimed their sexism and giving a member of the alt right (Sam) a show. Gelman's article renews interest in Bernstein's hit piece and more people start attacking Sam. Stories began circulating about "swasitkas" being hidden on the show.

Then enters Tim Heidecker into the mess. Tim is pissed the fuck off because he sees Sam as a rival to him at the network. In particular, it's alleged that World Peace's micro-budget came from Lazzo reallocating money that was originally budgeted for Tim's latest AS show "Decker Declassified". Money that was earmarked by Tim to pay for celebrity cameos for his show.

So when the backlash starts building against Sam, Tim basically takes Gelman/Bernstein's side and tells people that think Gelman and Bernstein are right to put pressure on AS. Turner Broadcasting (the people above Lazzo) panic and basically order Sam fired and World Peace canceled.

BUT Bernstein isn't done. Because Sam had the foresight to put in his contract that the rights to the entire show revert back to him, presumably to put it out on DVD himself, Bernstein goes after the music acts that appear on five of the six episodes. All but one (John Maus) are pressured to denouce Sam and the show as racist, while claiming they were "misled" and "lied to" about the show and Sam's "politics". Which means any DVD release is going to have to be severely edited and several of the show's more iconic sketches released in heavily cut form. Meanwhile Tim demands that Sam be blacklisted from ever getting any new shows on the air, as fans have begun calling him out for his role in killing the show on social media and he considers that to be "harassment". Even though Sam has openly called for no one to attack Tim because he knows that his enemies WANT that to happen to further attack him.

Sam eventually manages to confront Tim when Tim does a "call in" version of Tim's podcast. Tim denies everything, in slimey fashion and then Sam goes in for an "Exit Interview" with Adult Swim. Something happens with the exit interview, which shines Sam onto the fact that Gelman, not Tim is the real villain at Adult Swim. Tim was just an evil shit that exploited what Gelman started, to get rid of his rival and that Gelman and Bernstein played everyone. It was also at this meeting that Sam was able to get confirmation that the cancelation order did not come from Adult Swim itself, but from Turner.

So Tim isn't so much the evil mastermind but someone who hijacked Bernstein and Gelman's plan for himself to blow up a rival.
