They don't gross that much, which is why they're in so much debt. And their only source of revenue, subscriptions, only makes so much profit that it can't be reinvested in creating high quality content as well as keep existing content's production quality high. That's why Netflix's catalog is utter trash. Their business model doesn't allow for them to create good content because the content isn't self sustaining. If they sold their each of their content on transactional basis similar to the way video games are sold instead of selling access to their entire catalog, their shows and movies would be self sustaining and they'd have enough profit to reinvest in original content as well as keep existing ones production values afloat.
But that would mean opening up the industry to competition as studios would no longer be dependent on Netflix, as at least one of them would make enough capital to start a better digital distribution platform they'd flock to, like Valve did with Steam. Netflix losing their clout is the last thing Soros wants.

I watched at least two episodes and a half and this is a complete disaster. The creators of the show are BRAZILIAN and the humour is completely BRAZILIAN. With recent advancements in machine learning, we'll most likely see a dramatic cost reduction in content production in a few years, driving the price of content down for the consumer. And since Netflix is in so much debt with overvalued stocks and has most likely turn into a ponzi scheme to keep up with their content obligations to justify their stock price, when the next bubble bursts, it'll go the way of blockbuster.
