What if Satan learned of God's plans of cleansing the world with the Deluge, and he decided to create his own Ark?
Dark Ark follows sorcerer Shrae and his boat, as he tries to survive the flood and keep his passengers from turning on him and each other. Satan promised to free Sharae of his debts and eternal damnation, if he manages to save at least two of each evil creatures. Sharea also has to keep monsters away from attacking Noah's ark, so that evil will have a populace to feed on and terror in the post-flood future.
Series is still ongoing and only four issues have been released so far. They will be uploaded to mega and /co/'s vola as I post them.

>What if Satan learned of God's plans of cleansing the world with the Deluge, and he decided to create his own Ark?
I only need that to know how retarded the premise is.
Satan is so indulged in his own ego he would never accept defeat or a change of plans even if shit is blowing right in front of his face.
It also kinds ruins the whole sin is inherent to man therefore rendering humanity as a whole pretty flat.
The art looks nice though.

It is obvious from the get go that the book does not try to be accurate. Satan in it is not like the biblical one, but more like a competitor to God, and closer to dark spirits in European folklore.

The idea is cool, yet it isn't well executed in my opinion. We are supposed to see the sorcerer as some powerful monster yet he is most of the time behaving a little cucked but maybe that is because of the art not expressing well their feelings.
Also, if you are going to include vampires, why the fuck don't you include Cain? or even have Cain swim into the boat and punish the faggot vampire accordingly.
Now this is my personal taste, but I despite using 'creative liberties' for the look of the monsters. Mythical creatures should be drawn like they were drawn in their myths.

Not afraid but killed a factor yes. One of the Hammer Dracula films had a death, that one shitty vampire drama on the CW had a scene, there was a Scooby Doo movie set in Mexico that used the idea as an explanation to the mystery, a scene in the Hellsing anime, the original book, that one vampire show going on the Syfy channel. It's in part due to nepotism and in part due to money. Skilled artists prefer to work for any industry that's not comics. Concept art, illustrating textbooks, designing covers, commissions, or even posting art online and collecting patreon donations can make you more money than work in comics and in a much better work environment.
People work in comics either because they like it or because they can't work anywhere else.

his original work is barely referenced outside of the Call of Cthulhu. Most of his shit makes the creative liberal types wretch as it deals with the horrors that come from a tainted bloodline and can even get relatively sexist such as "the Thing on the Doorstep". Only thing I'm sick of in relation to Lovecraft are liberal writers who try to "appropriate" his lore and make it fall more in line with their current year political beliefs usually heavily using tentacle monsters or the word "madness". Worse still is when they have some black female character overcome some eldritch horror as that goes directly against his established lore.

In this issue Shrae attempts to negotiate with the sea monster, which turns out to have less to do with Lovercraft than it initially seemed.

It is decent. Writing is rather good, art is competent, and it is among the most historically accurate Dracula stories three issues in. So far the focus is are brothers' teenage years as Sulan's hostages and his son's shield-men. It looks like the story will focus on the Dracula's rise, except with injection of supernatural elements like Vampires into it. Something that might bother people is that in the story, men of Sultan's lineage are sworn to defend humanity from Vampires. It is not nearly as bad as it sounds, and Turks are not made into some sort of holly and righteous warriors. Sultan's son is an incompetent coward, and both Darcul brothers have to keep saving his ass.

Dunno. Is just that the art is offputting and removes any tension. Also, I'm kinda autistic when media doesn't represent monsters like in the original myth. Edchina should be a giant VERY beautiful woman with many snake tails instead of legs.
This is something I just learned, but female dragons are normally dragon centaurs, with the torso of a human female and the wraist of a dragon, in greek mythology.

Probably Babilonian is even older, but Edchina is one of the mightiest titans, and if we see Typhon he is strong enouth to defeat Zeus and fight against him for milenia. And if it follows the myth Typhon isn't even dead, but trapped under a mountain, shaking the world just to get free.

Egyptain is possibly older, but not by that much, since it likely started sometime before 3000 BC. Some consider animal deity worship, animal burials, and ritualistic burials involving primitive mummification procedures enough of an evidence to say that Egyptian mythology/religion was a thing as far back as prehistory.
Greek one is believed to have emerged sometime in the bronze age, and then changed over centuries as Greeks were influenced by Egyptians, Persians, Phoenicians, and so on. Interestingly enough, it is believed that in its early stages, Poseidon was the head god of the pantheon.
Yahwism is believed to have emerged in iron age, so Greek mythology is few centuries older than Semitic one.
Sumerian is the oldest civilization we know some myths from, but there are even older possible civilizations which would most likely have had their mythologies as well. Most of them have been located in Turkey, but there is little know about them.

I'd been enjoying this quite a bit. The premise is original and interesting, and there isn't a lot of fedora tipping, just a whiff, or maybe that's paranoia on my part. The art could be more detailed although I like it's style. The monster design/portrayal is ok, they could have done a better job with more detailed art and a more accurate resemblance to their classical counterparts.

So… the demons backstabbed both Shae and the monsters?
Like everyone already said, it is getting interesting.

> the demons backstabbed both Shae and the monsters?
I woulnd't call it backstabbing, they gave Shrae exactly what he wanted. Of course demons will only make a deal with you if it ends up screwing you over eventually. My bet: he will have to use magic to save his family, so he will renew the pact with no way out

This kinda disappoints me. To be the creatures that killed them all they sure are easy to scare.
I liked more my hypotesis of them being demons and satan just backstabbing them to breed the monsters for his own purposes.

And this is for the week and possibly for this arc or series as well, judging by 'The End' and no cover preview for next week.
Personally, I think they could have tied it off better, but I suppose author wanted to go all in with the cliffhanger.
At least this week's preview is decent.

Now it's time for a preview. Cancerous cover aside, it looks promising and art is much better than most other series that have been previewed. It is possible that hats are there only to hammer in that the book is set in the rural south.

I read through both, and only general setup is similar. Life Sucks is an indie romantic dramedy with Vampires and tiny bit of edginess in it. Dark Red is an action story about a vampire who tries leave violent past behind and to hide and from his past associates.
Both are rather competently done for the most part, but art Dark Red is just a little bit better. Quality of the story is hard to compare, since Dark Red has only one issue released so far. Life Sucks was alright, but predictable.

It might have been annoying, but it is actually pretty realistic in how many women and big city Californians act. I was actually surprised that the book was written by a woman, since female comicbook writers are rarely willing to do something like that with female characters and write male characters who want to get laid but without demonizing them.
It's a solid book overall.

A SEQUEL ONGOING SERIES HAS BEEN ANNOUNCED
DARK ARK: AFTER THE FLOOD #1 / $3.99 / 32 pages / Full Color / ON SALE 10.02.2019
Writer: Cullen Bunn
Artist: Juan Doe
Cover: Juan Doe
Incentive Cover: Andrei Bressan
Lenticular Cover: Mike Rooth [not shown here]
>THE EPIC SERIES RETURNS
>Two arks were built to survive the Flood. One was filled with the creatures of the natural world. The other was populated by…everything else.
>Now, the monsters of the DARK ARK have beaten Noah’s ark to land, and a new societal order must be created—one based on the rule of monsters. Khalee, a new sorceress, must maintain order amidst the chaos., but her otherworldly masters have a new task for her. She must devise a way to bring Noah’s Ark to the monsters…because the beasts must feed.
>From writer Cullen Bunn (UNHOLY GRAIL, BROTHERS DRACUL, X-Men Blue, Deadpool, Venom) and artist Juan Doe (ANIMOSITY: THE RISE, AMERICAN MONSTER, WORLD READER) comes a sinister tale of biblical proportions!
>CULLEN BUNN ON WHAT THE NEW DARK ARK SERIES IS ABOUT AND WHY HE’S EXCITED FOR IT TO COME OUT:
>“This new series picks up right where the last one left off, but a crazy new direction quickly comes to the forefront. The “Dark Ark” has found land. Now, a society must form–a society of monsters, many of which hate each other. To complicate matters, the man who held a tentative control on the monsters, Shrae, is dead, and his daughter has taken his powers as her own. Khalee is not ready for the magic at her beck and call, and she’s not ready for the demonic orders coming to her from the Great Beyond. The first of those orders: make sure Noah’s Ark reaches the same landing point as Shrae’s Ark. After all, now that the monsters have survived their journey, they need something to snack on.”
>ON SOME OF THE REASONS HE WANTED TO CONTINUE THIS POPULAR AFTERSHOCK SERIES:
>“I love this series. I love the characters in the book. I love working with artist Juan Doe. The reaction from readers about this book has been incredible, and I think we’ve created a world in which we could tell stories for a long while to come.”
>ON SOME OF THE INFLUENCES FOR THE NEW MONSTERS WE WILL MEET IN THIS STORY ARC:
>“As before, monsters in this book are pulled from a variety of sources. I noticed straight away, though, that many of the featured monsters this time around are from Greek myth. It wasn’t intentional. The monsters just worked in the story. This time around, it will not be monsters serving as the primary villains. Instead, we’ll see the dangers that a human can pose… particularly to themselves.
>And I wanted to give readers a monster they could care about. Readers really connected with the unicorns in the first few issues. I’m going to give them a creature they’ll like just as much. Of course, we all know how it worked out for the unicorns.”
>ON THE SWITCHING UP OF THE PROTAGONISTS:
>“Since this is a new book and a new jumping on point for readers, I thought giving them a new “lead” was perfect. Of course, Khalee has been a star of the series from the beginning. Only now we’re seeing her in a new light. And, hey, this is a world full of magic and monsters. You might not have seen the last of Shrae. You’ll definitely be seeing more about his backstory–how he became the dreaded sorcerer that he was.”
