That is a lie.
Since 1986, comics, especially DC comics, have required you to read more and more issues to understand what's going on. To understand what's going on in Superman comics, you have to read Action comics. To understand what's happening in Action comics, you have to read Justice League. To understand all of it, you'd have to been reading DC titles for five months or a year.
Comic companies have embraced decompressed story-telling and cross-title narratives as a way to get fanboys to buy more comics, thus requiring stores to buy more comics. The dense continuity is crafted to keep fanboys buying, but is now becoming a problem now that those fanboys are dying off. The impenetrable continuity has made it difficult for new readers to jump on board.
So, my advice to OP is to stay the fuck away.
