 No.921711

>Steppenwolf's mission is to harvest planets with a machine that drains natural resources and beams them up to Apokolips through a portal created by three ancient Mother Boxes. He attempts to harvest Earth in pre-historic times, but is defeated due to an unexpected alliance between the amazons, the atlanteans and Green Lantern Abin Sur to defend the humans. The Mother Boxes are left behind and split among the three kingdoms.

>On present day, Bruce Wayne arrives on Amnesty Bay to recruit Aquaman to his team, but Aquaman refuses. In London, Wonder Woman foils a hostage crisis, then receives a message from Hyppolita asking for help. She arrives on Themyscira just as Steppenwolf returns to Earth and reclaims the Amazons' Mother Box. Alfred has been monitoring alien activity on Earth and learned that several scientists have been kidnapped by Parademons.

>Steppenwolf attacks Atlantis and steals their Mother Box. Aquaman attempts to stop him, but fails. Wonder Woman then returns to Gotham to ask Batman for help. Batman recruits the Flash, while Wonder Woman approaches Cyborg, who refuses. While Cyborg is away, his father Silas Stone is captured by the Parademons and the humans' Mother Box is also stolen. Cyborg joins the team as they meet Commissioner James Gordon, who has found the Parademons' nest in an abandoned tunnel between Metropolis and Gotham.

>The team goes there, but are ambushed by Steppenwolf and nearly killed before Aquaman saves them. They rescue the scientists and learn from Silas that Steppenwolf has stolen Superman's body in order to harvest the Codex and enhance the Parademons with Superman's powers. Steppenwolf and the Parademons attack the Kryptonian scout ship in Metropolis, but the team intervenes. Superman returns and repels Steppenwolf, but is overwhelmed and flees. Wonder Woman learns that the Harvester is buried in an abandoned town in Venezuela and the team heads there to stop him. Steppenwolf activates the machine and begins draining the Earth, causing widespread destruction. Superman briefly reunites with Lois Lane and Martha Kent in Smallville before leaving to save Metropolis and then join the battle in Venezuela.

>Superman and Aquaman defeat Steppenwolf, who is killed by Wonder Woman, while Batman disables the Harvester, Flash rounds up the Parademons and Cyborg reverses the portal created by Mother Boxes, sending them away. The team are celebrated as heroes for saving the world and form the Justice League. Superman reunites with Lois, Batman returns to Metropolis, Flash asks Iris West out on a date, Wonder Woman and Aquaman return the Mother Boxes to their rightful places, Cyborg makes amends with Silas, and the world is at peace.

>Lex Luthor, Henry Allen, Deathstroke and Darkseid have been entirely cut.

>The Knightmare is not addressed.

>Wonder Woman is present when Steppenwolf steals the Amazons' Mother Box from Themyscira and vows revenge. This was included to set up Steppenwolf's new death scene.

>Additional scene of Alfred picking up Batman in Amnesty Bay after Aquaman rejects him.

>Additional scene of Flash and Cyborg discussing their backgrounds on their way to the Parademons' nest and developing a bond.

>The Harvester subplot was entirely added in reshoots, restructuring the third act which was originally just an alien invasion.

>Superman's subplot is altered. Rather than flee from Metropolis due to self-doubt, he does it to see Lois and Martha and let them know he's fine before immediately joining the battle.

>Additional scene of Superman saving Metropolis from the Harvester's effects and reassuring the people that everything will be fine.

>Additional scene of Superman meeting Alfred before heading to Venezuela.

>Cyborg's subplot is altered. Rather than doubt himself and be reassured by Batman, Cyborg is the one who rallies the League using a football metaphor that later inspires the team's name.

>Steppenwolf's demise is changed. Originally he'd be beamed back to Apokolips by Cyborg and executed by Darkseid for faiIing to conquer Earth. Now Wonder Woman will punch him into the Harvester's beam and disintegrate him.

>Additional scene of Cyborg and Silas watching Cyborg's old college football games together.

>Minor dialogue additions throughout.

The trailer looked already terrible.

And I made the mistake after Suicide Squad and the half boring, half Batman BvS to watch Wonder Woman.

Which just got good reviews in the US it seems because "LOL a woman does something! We have never seen that! Let's ignore Hunger Games and all the other female superheroes we already had shortly before that and imply WHOA that's completely new!" but the movie was complete and utter shit except maybe the scene where she kicked ass in a city. Also: LOLOL holocaust never existed and the evil Germans never started WW2 because that's why war and dictatorships start, right? Because people are evil.

 No.921783

>>921774

I see it the other way around. Civil War is better than any past-Dark Knight DC movie.

I admit that they are visually compelling. But fun to watch? Bullshit. During the recent DC films I was zero entertained, I had no fun. It was all just dark, tried to be deep and meaningful, tried to be too serious for the ridiculous bullshit happening.

And Snyder is waaay too obsessed with 300s way of making movies (visuals, slow motion ect). That especially hurt Watchmen for completely unnecessary over the top gore and violence.

Watchmen has such an awesome story and you can't show that shit to any comic hater because he slapped all that edgy violence into it for absolutely no reason.

Like the heroes Night Owl and Silk Spectre stabbing people and breaking their arms? Come on.

That brings me to the next point, the heroes are all assholes. I'd run away from that stupid ass Superman, not seek his help. I don't even care that he broke Zod's neck, but he's so uninvested and destroys so much shit. It's like Superman doesn't like his job or something.

I understand Batman is nuts, but Superman?

So basically, Snyder is too edgy, the movies drag, it takes itself too serious, noone likes what they do, everything looks fake and dark.

REALLY fake. Like a videogame.

I rather have a colorful superhero movie, with slock mixed in ironically commented on by the characters, all the characters having fun doing what they do and hell, even the villains enjoying what they do.

Dark Knight did it perfectly, but then there are two Kryptonian alien guys who can fly and are brooding all the time and in a grumpy mood, I couldn't take that crap seriously anymore.

Go back to /tv/

 No.921828

>>921774

You aren't entirely wrong. Snyder is a visualist that tries to make the best and most memorable moments he can. I am not even going to get into the tone argument that others like to bring up, but the problem is that he isn't a very good storyteller. I mean, watch a original movie he made like Sucker Punch, which is visually impressive I grant you that, but it was stringed along by events that made little sense and turn out to be happening inside the girls' heads all along. Man of Steel or Batman v Superman that are saddled with random flashbacks and dream sequences that completely disrupt the flow of the narrative.

I am not necessarily saying Whedon is better either, because his movies suffer the same problem with pacing to a lesser extent that is compounded by quip filled garbage and jokes. I rewatched Avengers again and that movie was so boring except for the final battle. Even the jokes that were mildly amusing the first time grow stale after decades.

There's been a few test-screenings of JUSTICE LEAGUE for WB employees and affiliates with an overall mixed to positive reaction. General consensus seems to be that "it's a good movie, on par with "Man of Steel" (LOOOOOOL), not as good as "Wonder Woman" but vastly superior to "Batman VS. Superman" and "Suicide Squad"."

>There are no real standout action scenes.

>Editing is choppy in the first two acts, but improves during the third act.

>Tone is consistently serious despite the increase of comedi scenes.

>Whedon added a lot of dialogue. His material is obvious, but not jarring.

>Lex Luthor, Deathstroke and Iris West have been cut, but Henry Allen appears.

>Several scenes from the trailers have been cut, including Alfred talking to Superman, Cyborg having flashbacks of life before his transformation, Batman studying Kryptonian holograms, etc.

>Two Green Lanterns appear during the ancient battle against Steppenwolf, one alien and one human-looking implied to be Abin Sur

>Darkseid is referenced throughout as Steppenwolf's master, but doesn't appear. Steppenwolf references Darkseid's cause as being "Unity" and claims that the Old Gods are dead and it's their time to be worshipped as New Gods.

>Superman has no real character arc. He returns more hopeful and eager to help people, but the movie tries to retcon him into having always been like that.

>Batman and Flash have an endearing mentor-student relationship, while Wonder Woman and Cyborg have an "older sister & younger brother". She's the one nurturing, protecting, and encouraging him to embrace his fate. Batman and Aquaman have a friendly rivalry, always making fun or each others powers and weapons, and they all admire Superman.

>Batman and Wonder Woman flirt, but nothing beyond that. He wants her to lead the Justice League in Superman's absence, but she's reluctant because every death under her command would hurt as bad as Steve Trevor's. She's the one leading the battle against Steppenwolf in Russia.

Wonder Woman never fought in WWI in the comics, none of the Justice League did. Golden Age Wondie left Themyscira to fight in WWII, and the modern one only recently joined the world of men, so fought in neither world war. I like Elfman and all but Christ, this is 40% Spider-Man, 20% Batman '89, 5% Superman 78', 10% Zimmer, 10% Cover songs, 5% pulled from the Flash TV intro, and the last 10% is original content.

Elfman threw out most of Zimmer's and Junkie's work, whether that's a good thing or bad thing is up to you but im honestly disappointed the reworked version of "An Ideal Hope" didn't make the cut. Only one trailer has it. (its the video embed starting at 1min)

From what we heard so far the movie is just okay, not BvS or Suicide Squad level of awful, but it doesn't blow the Avengers out of water. Which is sad because this movie should have blown it out of water.

 No.941391

Just saw it

- The pacing was fucking TERRIBLE. This is NOT the kind of story you would pack into a two hour film. I doubt two and a half hours would even barely do it justice. But NOOOO. WB just HAD to cut it to LESS THAN TWO HOURS. MAKING THE PACING FUCKING UNWATCHABLE. This scene doesn’t lead to that scene, but wait, where did that scene come from? And also, why are you suddenly here? And why does that thing suddenly lead to that thing? Those are questions I asked myself throughout the whole damn film. I kept trying to tell myself, “oh, SURELY it would get better towards the end, right?” NO. IT DOESNT. AT ALL.

- and because of those cuts, a lot of the character development was also cut out, too. We barely have enough information about each character as an individual before they were smashed together as a team. There’s a fine line between leaving the audience wanting for more and making the audience clueless about their character, and this movie not only stepped over that line, it fucking soared over it like a dozen Boeing jets. All of the characters were just smushed into being a general character trait (especially for non-dc fans), like the broody computer dude, the fast comic relief, the beautiful warrior goddess and the alcoholic fish man.

- I knew it would be a problem to involve two directors in a huge film like this, and it fucking shows, man. Some scenes are distinctly Zack Snyder, and some scenes are distinctly Joss Whedon. And lo and behold, the styles of these two directors doesn’t fit. At all. It’s like trying to hammer a square block into a round hole. Sure, you might get it in somehow, but both the square block and the round hole are going to be severely damaged. The best of Zack Snyder doesn’t show, and the best of Joss Whedon doesn’t as well. The quips and shit from Joss Whedon severely clashes with the tone and story Zack is tying to set up, and it just takes you out of the moment in an instant.

- Steppenwolf. Fucking. SUCKED. As a villain. I get it. You’re trying to make the heroes step into the spotlight. I totally get that. Steppenwolf can take a backseat. But can you at least put SOME effort into making him a convincing villain. All he did was smash his hammer into some floors. That was it.

- have you ever heard of the term “uncanny valley”? Good. Did you know that the term was invented specifically to describe Superman’s upper lip? The stories about CGI-ing Henry Cavill’s moustache off from the movie may seem hilarious when reading about it, but when you actually see the result, it’s just terribly, terribly sad. I forced myself to look at Henry’s chest for half of the film just to spare myself from the secondhand embarrassment. Cyborg’s CGI was also a problem, but it can’t be helped, considering he’s a walking computer robot man. But when you think about how the moustache problem can be solved by just a razor and some shaving cream, you can’t help but to be filled with uncontrollable petty rage.

- the music doesn’t fit the movie. Danny Elfman can go shove his one and only batman theme up his pompous arse. At least it fits there.

- Batwonder. Apparently it’s a thing now, and it’s honestly close to being as forced as Brutasha.

- the QUIPS. OH MY GOD. EVERY QUIP HAS JOSS WHEDON STAMPED ALL OVER IT. COMPLETELY CONTRADICTING THE CHARACTER THAT DELIVERS IT. THEY ARE SO BAD. BATMAN QUIPS. AQUAMAN QUIPS. FLASH QUIPS A LOT. SUPERMAN GIVES THE CHEESIEST, CRAPPIEST QUIP OF ALL.

- Superman’s revival shouldn’t be occurring at the time that it occurred into the movie. It interrupted the already disastrous flow of the movie, and his revival was covered only for like what, five minutes? Then it’s on to the next thing. Plus, the impacts of his revival on society itself wasn’t shown, which was an incredible waste of potential, and ultimately reduced the impact of his revival by a LOT.

Ultimately, Justice League was just a messy, poorly-put-together film that has a story with a lot of wasted potential. I still have a lot of things left unsaid about the film, but they’re honestly very petty issues that I personally found horrible, so I’m not gonna include them here. All in all, Justice League was the ultimate proof that I will never be able to agree with movie critics ever

And here I was, thinking Warner has money.

 No.942073

Just came back from watching this.

>CGI isn't that bad, there are some parts where it comes off as iffy and some parts where it's REALLY fucking bad (the Themyscira scenes, for example) but for the most part it's not any worse than say, Thor was. Cavill's post-mustache VFX job wasn't even noticeable unless you knew it was there and focusing exclusively on picking it out.

>Steppenwolf wasn't that bad of a villain. He was like a less shitty version of Ares and much better than, say, fucking Ultron. He's mostly just there to fuck the heroes' shit up and gather the three motherboxes together and he does it well enough, at least until they ruin his threat level by having Superman ragdoll him. He also manages to get some brief personality and brief backstory about his purpose and him being an exile by having it quickly dropped in dialogue and via flashback, which was pleasantly surprising, especially considering the exposition dumps for everything else.

>Speaking of the motherboxes, the movie doesn't really explain what the fuck they do. It's sorta implied that they terraform the planet to make it more like Apokolips but it's phrased in a very weasel-worded way as though they didn't want to come out and say it outright, lest people (correctly) rag on them for just re-doing the plot of Man of Steel.

>The movie has a bunch of humor but most of it is not particularly funny. There's actually way less quips than you'd think from all the reviews, the majority of the movie is fairly serious in tone. The funniest scenes are, weirdly enough, the ones poking fun at Batman or having him doing stupid shit. Flash's one-liners just tended to fall flat for the most part. There were also a few unintentionally funny scenes, such as the one where Steppenwolf and his parademons arrive on Themyscira to get one of the motherboxes and there's a whole action sequence with him chasing the Amazons for it while they juggle it back and forth. It's clearly meant to be a serious scene but it comes off as a Monty Python sketch instead.

>There's a bunch of obligatory pozz at the beginning of the movie, the two I can remember most clearly is a montage of how Superman's death made the world worse and one of them is of a white dude attacking a hijab-wearing mudslime shopkeeper and the museum fight scene where Wonder Woman stops a bunch of evil white reactionaries trying to blow up the building. Thankfully, that shit is contained to the beginning of the movie.

>The editing is pretty bad at times, there are a bunch of places where the movie just rapidly cuts from one scene to the next with no logical explanation. One of the most egregious examples of this is after the fight with Steppenwolf in the Gotham sewers, the Justice League are shown to be trapped in a flooded tunnel and then it suddenly cuts away to them standing on the shore talking to Commissioner Gordon.

>I'm not sure if it was intentional but Batman is completely useless in this movie. I'm dead serious. He basically does fuck all for the most part except struggle with a bunch of parademons and recruit Flash. This is especially obvious during the final fight against Steppenwolf where Batman fires a bunch of missiles at a forcefield generator to let the rest of the Justice League through and then just sort of hangs around while the others battle Steppenwolf and try to disable the motherboxes. He's not even the team's leader, Cyborg basically replaced him as the brains of the group.

>I've finally figured out Wonder Woman's puzzling popularity. Gal Gadot is good at doing funny/cute facial expressions and her action scenes are one of the better ones, which is why people like her and are willing to ignore the fact that she's fucking awful whenever she opens her mouth. It also makes sense, since she was originally a model.

>Superman shows up for three scenes. The problem is, while he is now cheerful and gets to kick some ass, he still has no character to speak of. No motivation, no personality. I know what Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg are about in this universe and 3 of those characters first showed up in this film but I still have no fucking clue as to what Superman is about. He is also the main reason the last battle of the film feels so hokey and tense-less, he makes Steppenwolf into a joke and could pretty much solo all of the parademons in the area within seconds if he wanted to. The film literally has to take him out of the fight by having him fly off to rescue an apartment block of civilians from mutating alien tree roots so the whole thing isn't over in two minutes flat.

>Lois Lane also shows up and MY GOD, the lack of chemistry between Adams and Cavill is so blatant now it's painful. It also doesn't help that Adams is looking visibly older and more ragged, while Cavill still looks in top shape. There's an extended scene of them at the Kent farm and it's easily the most boring scene in the entire film. The dialogue and acting is Twilight levels of bad there. They need to replace Adams, ASAP. Either that or replace Lois with Lana Lang or Cat Grant or SOMEONE that can actually support a romance with this version of Superman. Fuck, Superman had more chemistry with the freakin' Flash in this movie than with Lois. And before I forget, Lois is, once again, entirely superfluous to the proceedings. Her character could be cut out entirely and you'd lose virtually nothing important.

>Speaking of romance, this movie also tries to get a Batman/Wonder Woman thing going. Key word being tries. There's a bunch of 1-on-1 scenes between them which are clearly designed to throw BM/WW shippers a bone but none of them really work. Wonder Woman manages to have more chemistry with Cyborg, Aquaman, Flash and Superman than she does with Batman, probably because none of them were being actively forced with her in the film.

>Flash is just OK. He's pretty goofy and they retconned him into a kike, probably because of fucking Ezra Miller, but he's more or less competent at what he does towards the end of the film, though not by much. Much like with Superman, the movie actively tries to avoid having him fight Steppenwolf, although this is partially justified by the fact that he's scared shitless of battle and the fact that unlike Superman, Steppenwolf could turn him into paste if he lands even one punch.

>Aquaman is also OK. He has a pretty amusing scene where he accidentally sits on Wonder Woman's lasso while the team is flying off to fight Steppenwolf and company and starts getting all emotional but he's also pretty badass for the most part. There's a long exposition scene between him and Mera in Atlantis after Steppenwolf steals the second motherbox which is clearly meant to set up his solo movie but feels just as out of place as Thor's Ragnarok vision was in Age of Ultron. He and Wonder Woman end up tag-teaming Steppenwolf during the final fight.

>The movie also has quite a few hilariously dumb scenes. One that comes to mind is after Superman kicks the League's ass and flies off with Lois, Steppenwolf teleports in to steal the last motherbox as it was lying on top of a policeman's car…and the Justice League just watches him do it without lifting a finger. I think the most that happened was Wonder Woman going something like "OH NOES!" as it was occurring.

>One Green Lantern shows up during the flashback scene with Steppenwolf's first invasion and gets murdered by Steppenwolf impaling him something like three to four seconds in. He was wearing a cape which made me think that it was Alan Scott for a second for some reason but no, it was just some random alien guy.

>There's two end credits scenes, one with Superman Flash having a race and a second one with Deathstroke and Luthor on a boat. The second one is especially disappointing, because there's no cool fight or anything, it's literally just Deathstroke talking to Luthor, taking off his mask and Lex namedropping the Injustice League or, well, referencing it. The most I can say is that Slade's appearance looks pretty spot on with the eye-patch and all.

All in all, it was a mostly mediocre movie.

This so much! What I liked about Man of Steel (which somehow noone mentions because people keep whining about the product placement at those scenes, but not in any other movie…), was the impact on the punches. Like when Superman punched Zodd into the background, or when Superman fights the two henchmen and punches smash them right into the ground.

Starting with Batman v Superman, it lost impact. Compare it to when e.g. the Hulk Buster manages to smash Hulk in the face and sends him flying, but only a few feet. You really feel the weight of Hulk.

And in Thor, the way how their punches send each other flying, there you know: Oh wow, those are clearly superhuman and the Hulk Buster is nothing compared to them.

It's a payoff.

Superman punching Batman in the scene posted here only knocks him off his feet. It's friggin Superman! Even a mild punch should slap Batman into the next skyscraper.

It's been pushed for the past decade at least. It's nothing new since the old justice league cartoon.

> the QUIPS

Flash and Cyborg should have been the only ones to do quips with any sort of frequency. Batman would have been fine with it if it were a one-off thing that he did near the end. Superman's revival felt a bit rushed. It really should have been saved for the final act, where a just revived Supes has to take on Steppenwolf, so that it isn't completely lop-sided. Although, it was nice to see supes overpower Steppenwolf as he has to be able to come close to matching up with Darkseid.

> a lot of the character development was also cut out

We'll probably have to wait till the brd or dvd director's cut. A lot of the character development issues could have been taken care of had the other heroes been given their own movies or they were at least placed in the other heroe's movies. For example, Barry Allen should have shown up in one of Batman's movies and his backstory should have been fleshed out there. The same goes for Aquaman.

THE GOOD

>They do not end the villain with a 'kill the motherfucker' ending like most marvel films or man of steel. They wreck his plans and literally beat him into a corner and make him feel fear which turns his army of parademons on him and he is pulled back through a boom tube which will tell Darkseid there is something on earth that can break his soldiers and teach them fear. Thats a lot more faithful than previous murderman movies.

>There were only two really unfunny forced joke moments with bruce that felt like whedons influence

>Not 100% pozzed like marvel, barry trips saving diana and faceplants into her boobs and zips to upright looking awkward for a second, that shit would not fly in anything from the squirell girl camp.

>Seeds a lot of little teases to future stuff like barry talking about 'gorilla sign language' and a after credits sequence of deathstroke being called to luthors yacht to talk about the idea of 'a league of our own'

>Mera is maybe the most faithful comic to live action appearance in years

>Uses the classic batman and superman themes

>JJJ is good as commissioner gordon, i would like to see him in a straight gotham only movie dealing with shit like the penguin who was also teased in this film

>Shot of a Green Lantern falling in battle in the past and a nice shot of his ring instantly shooting off and doing that classic zig zag as it speeds off in search of another being with the capacity to withstand fear, which in a film with enemies that literally smell fear its a nice little nod for GL fans

>Wonder Woman feels more like a character than 'DO YOU SEE WE ARE ALLIES' b8 with other characters outright calling shit saying 'you are almost as strong as superman, so where the fuck have you been for the last century? you want to talk about running away from your problems start there' and isn't this infallible perfect womyn princess tumblr character. Including a VERY short skirt with the swimsuit/panties underneath and is much less heavy on the forced accent.

>Feels more like setting up a bigger universe than just a darkseid advert. He is name dropped once and not to the characters and you never see a hint of him or apocalypse in this movie. The crux of the movie is just 'the last kyrptonians died so shit in space got the confidence to start some shti again' it doesnt feel like a "REMEMBER THE INFINITY STONES" advert for other movies

>Barry is not the tumblr cringe i expected. Not extremely great but hes not the constant blabber mouth. For example theres a scene where superman is first brought back and hes amnesiac and berserk and they all try to hold him down and barry runs around and in the speedforce sees clark slowly turn to look at him while everything else is frozen solid and his eyes just open wider and thats it. No screaming to the other characters to tell the audience what they already saw.

>After credits is a nice nod to the comics where barry challenges clark to a race across america

THE BAD

>Cavill seems really out of place and tired. The others give some level of acting but this feels like cavill reading lines with a CGI upper lip you can't unsee.

>Film needed another editing run but probably didnt have time, ends on a louis monolgoue which needed some foreshadowing in the opening, perhaps showing her trouble to return to journalism after losing clark but its missing like a few other moments, not many its no suicide squad, but like Age of Ultron shit is a bit too neat sometimes.

>The Gotham-Metropolis 'across the bay' divide still feels strange

>Affleck makes a competant batman but a really generic bruce wayne, lacking bales smug or keatons charm

>The actor playing cryborg is one note. He has no range and even the 'booya' at the end feels hollow.

>Alfred has some really, really stupid lines. Hes been tracking Victor for weeks for bruce then when victor talks to him he goes 'sorry, who is this?' and feels like trailer b8 every time hes a fucking idiot.

>music uses memorable themes like elfmans batman, williams superman and most recently greggsons wonder woman theme but theres nothing memorable in terms of original music. It was nice to see gordon under the batsignal in the gotham sky and hear THE batman theme but theres no justice league theme.

Overall its not amazing. Its not suicide squad bad or thor dark world level boring but its also not as good as films like hellboy or captain america. its easily better than batman vs superman.

but perosnally i would bet good money there is still editing work going on to make a much better edited blu ray cut of the film as right now this was an improvement for the franchise but in a vaccum you could tell this film switched creator control at somepoint and the second half feels much weaker than the first.
