Saw this the other day. Wanna make people more aware of it. Birdboy is a Spanish made film about 3 kids looking to get a way off their island home that's been ravaged by a nuclear reactor accident. Leaving the island's people poor & desperate. With many turning to drugs for escapism. Meanwhile the title character of the film, Birdboy, is a silent protagonist dealing with a literal inner demon he can only suppress with specially drugs/happy pills. Yes there are literal demons in this movie that act as metaphors as well.
It's a pretty dark film as I'm sure you can surmise so far. There's a few side characters who's stories show just how cruel this island has become post disaster. I really don't know how much I can describe the film without spoiling it. I fully recommend you watch it. If you can, get the blu-ray with the original spanish audio. But an english dub does exist.
