Greetings, Space Cadets! Remember Space Ghost: Coast to Coast? That hilarious 90s cartoon talkshow made entirely from stock footage? The one with all the great jokes and celebrity guest stars?

Well, this comic has nothing to do with that. This is a one-shot space adventure comic based on the original 1960s show, not C2C or even Space Stars if anyone remembers that.

This 1987 comic produced by the now-defunct "COMICO" company surprisingly wasn't written as a franchise cash-in, but as a genuine labor of love by a writer and artist who genuinely loved the original cartoon. The license was also dirt cheap at the time, as Cartoon Network didn't turn the character into a pop culture titan yet.

This comic serves as an odd little bridge between the character's original incarnation and the comedic version, and practically nobody has read it – but today, you'll be one of the few who can say they have!

Sorry for the shit quality, by the way. This thing's rare so scans are mediocre. Still fully legible.

Do you know how fucking embarrassing it is to show up an hour late to your own thread? The board software cucked me quite hard.

Anyway, Space Ghost's most nefarious villains (except Moltar and Black Widow, for whatever reason) have escaped from prison! It's a miracle they were even in prison given how often SG leaves his foes to die.

Seriously, watch any episode of the 1960s Space Ghost and see if you can count how often Space Ghost leaves the bad guys to die horribly. It's the ending to almost every episode.

If you grew up watching C2G or Brak Show, watching Brak shit all over Zorak and act like he's the boss must be so goddamn jarring.

Brak's personality in this comic is basically what Lokar's was in C2G, so you should probably be reading all his dialogue in that voice.

>>1047011

>so you should probably be reading all his dialogue in that voice.

Nah, you should read it in Brak's vaguely Asian voice from the original series.

This comic is a little more silly in some places than the original show was meant to be, so that's another way it kind of bridges the gap between the original and Coast to Coast.

Like the fact that in a fucking space prison all the alien villains were fucking breaking rocks like a fucking Looney Tunes episode, and how Zorak is a lot more bumbling and thuggish than he was in the cartoon.

I like how of all of Space Ghost's rogues' gallery, Zorak changed the least over every incarnation.

Oh right! I forgot that Brak was originally voiced by the old Chinese man from Gremlins! No seriously, that's a real thing. Moltar is also Lurch from the Adams Family.

Shame Moltar ain't here, but it makes sense. This isn't like the council of doom which was an organized movement, this was a spontaneous prison-break scenario.

>>1047013

Can I just say how much I love Brak and Creature King playing cards? That's just so freaking great. And Brak insulting Zorak while he does it just adds to the magic.

Fans of Coast to Coast also know Creature King as "Who the fuck is that guy?"

>Zorak chimping out and punching Brak in the fucking face

Get used to that, Brak, you've got a decade of being Zorak's whipping boy after this.

In Moltar's place is Lurker, a guy made just for the comic book. Take a good, long look at him, you ain't seeing this guy anywhere else!

Hey, fans of Future Quest! You recognize Metallus, don't cha? He was a second-banana Council of Doom member who, by sheer luck, became the first Space Ghost villain to have a fully-fleshed out backstory and motivation! Way cool!

Truly, a crime.

>Don't remember much of the original Space Ghost

I'm not surprised. The show is over fifty years old and every episode was just five minutes long. It was one of the only older cartoons I could stand as a kid because it went so fast and was almost entirely pure action. It was awesome.

Glad you enjoyed the storytime, anon.

 No.1047024

I bought this, years ago, not long after it came out.

Mark Evanier also wrote the Dynomutt comics. I was shocked when I finally saw the cartoon and Dyno was fucking retarded, in the comics he always had a goofy face on but he was always portrayed as basically a competent crimefighter, and being upset if he screwed up. Unlike the cartoon, where he fucked up everything Blue Falcon did, every fucking time, like a complete asshole.

Y'know, a lot of people wonder why Blue Falcon keeps Dynomutt around if all he ever does is fuck things up like an idiot. But that's actually a pretty good representation of all dog owners.

Kudos to Evanier for fixing that annoying trope, though. Shame he kept up the cliche of Jan and Jace getting kidnapped in this comic. Even the fucking Scooby Doo crossover comic made fun of that.
