"Witness the return of Jesus Christ, who is sent by God on the most sacred mission, to learn what it means to be the true Messiah of mankind by becoming a colleague of the world's favorite savior: the all-powerful superhero Sun-Man, the Ultimate Son of Krispex. But when Christ returns to the earth, he is shocked to discover what was made of his gospel - and now he intends to put things on the right track. "

Actually, most of his suffering was done in the garden of gethsemane when he drank from the bitter cup and bled from every pore. The actually Crucifixion was basically a formality and to cover the actually dying part.

>Most of his suffering
Yes he was in emotional anguish at the moment, but physically he had not suffered, yet.
>drank from the bitter cup
Unless you're seeing something I'm not he didn't drink anything, unless you're implying his anguish in the garden was the cup and not the entire ordeal of a false/illegal under the Law trial, being beaten, scourged, spit on, mocked and hung to die like a common criminal, being rejected by the people of the covenant He came to try and bring back to the right path and be ready for when salvation was offered to the Gentiles as well as the Jews. Not to split hairs or claim "HA HA my theology is better than your theology" but limiting the "cup" to just the garden I think misses the whole ordeal of his suffering.
>bled from every pore
Not sure that's what actually happened as it says he sweat drops "like blood" unless I have read that wrong. There is a condition where blood vessels can burst and blood will seep out through the sweat glands, but the New Testament writers use the phrase "like X" quite a lot.
Regardless of if he actually sweat blood or not he was in a state of anguish I dare say few, if any, could truly comprehend.

The problem with at is that it seems a bit arrogant. Considering the context is about appeasing petty villains so you'll live to see another day, it might just be so you would avoid angering your master further, rather than showing defiance, which really doesn't solve anything and would just piss him off even more, if he is wicked, and as I said, considering the context, it's less likely the passage refers to any master who may have some humility. I'd like to know what the traditional Copticathodox view of the passage is. Either way, it's definitely not a "hurr violence bad" message.

wasn't the "turn the other cheek" thing actually about causing the person beating you social damage by forcing them to strike you as a brute would? since there was a way to strike a person and let them keep their dignity, but if they backhanded you then they were a brute and were not deserving of respect.
Which is why you would turn the cheek in a public area, so people could see their brutishness. Or something. It's been a long time since I've looked into that.

I know citing wikipedia only barely counts, but it seems I was thinking of the nonviolent resistance interpretation of the statement: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turning_the_other_cheek
"The scholar Walter Wink, in his book Engaging the Powers: Discernment and Resistance in a World of Domination, interprets the passage as ways to subvert the power structures of the time.
At the time of Jesus, says Wink, striking with the back of the hand a person, who was deemed to be of a lower socioeconomic class, was used as a means to assert authority and dominance. If the persecuted person "turned the other cheek," the discipliner was faced with a dilemma: The left hand was used for unclean purposes, so a back-hand strike on the opposite cheek would not be performed. An alternative would be a slap with the open hand as a challenge or to punch the person, but this was seen as a statement of equality. Thus, by turning the other cheek, the persecuted was demanding equality."

<SUPERMAN IS JEWISH!
<SUPERMAN IS MOSES!
<SUPERMAN IS JESUS!
Oh fuck this shit. Siegel and Shuster didn't create Superman as Jewish. Fuckers who say that have no knowledge of how the children of immigrants viewed their cultural identities in the 20s - 30s. Those kids viewed themselves as Americans first and foremost, so you'd have German-Americans, Polish-Americans, Irish-Americans, and, what Siegel, Shuster, Eisner, and Kirby belonged to, Jewish-Americans. Thus, Superman wasn't created to be Jewish, he was created to be American.
And all that talk about Superman being Moses or Jesus is a bunch of crap. The only thing Superman has in common with them is if you have a very, very, loose interpretation of their origins, that's it. Superman doesn't lead his people out of bondage to the promised land, nor does Superman die for our sins, nor anything important that Moses or Jesus did. It's just a bunch of pretentious horse-apples for faggots too insecure to enjoy stories about guys in spandex.

You still have to address why Superman is selfish asshole, at best Chaotic Good in DnD-terms since he selectively applies law and does only what he feels like. If he was created to be American, he certainly epitomizes the worst sins of the country instead of being inspirational symbol writers try to portray him as.

I was referring to Sonic as an example because his personality is basically Chaotic Good in that he won't actively look for villains and would prefer to just relax, but immediately acts like a superhero when there's actual danger. (i.e. OVA Sonic acting like a lazy shit when he knows Tails could save the Old Man Owl but immediately comes to the rescue without complaint when it's clear Tails can't handle the situation.)
I wouldn't call Superman a selfish asshole, but more of a dumbass.

At large enough scale stupidity becomes inseparable from outright and I would argue that Superman has went long past that point with the way he tends to be written, but I acknowledge your point. Chaotic Good Superman would be more interesting than the "Holy Savior of DC-verse" anyway since it would allow Superman to be more honest with his desire to simply live as Clark Kent while helping out occasionally.

It's not technically heretical language until it actually states that Jesus isn't divine. Remember, Jesus Himself said things like "The Father has sent me." We aren't really equipped to understand the Trinitarian God in His essence; not even the angels can grasp His transcendence, so it makes sense that there would be no perfect way to describe the coming of Christ

I've lived in Europe for several years and when you've lived there that long it becomes clear as day that yes that is what most Americans are, I used to laugh with locals as to what Americans think "white" is.
Surely "Superman" must be hitting on some form of shared culture. He's fairly Semitic looking, so assuming it's Judaism isn't so much of a reach in my opinion.
