ANIMATED FEATURE FILM

>Incredibles 2

>Isle of Dogs

>Mirai

>Ralph Breaks the Internet

>Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

ANIMATED SHORT FILM

>Animal Behavior

>Bao

>Late Afternoon

>One Small Step

>Weekends

Admittedly, there’s not much to discuss about the Oscars anymore, at least as far as /co/ content is concerned. Animated Feature Film is gonna be Incredibles or Ralph and Animated Short Film is gonna be Bao. The only tossup worth mentioning this year is that Black Panther was nominated for Best Picture (in one of the most pozzed Best Picture lineups I’ve ever seen).

 No.1046313

I think that Into the Spider-Verse might win. It checks off too many diversity boxes. It is also the most recent release out of the animated lineup, so judges' kids probably saw it not long ago and still won't shut up about it.

Reminder:

WeWuz Panther is the first capeshit film to get nominated for an Oscar, even though it's one of the worst capeshit films ever released.

What was Wewuz Panther like though? I've not watched it for obvious reasons but I wonder what's going on there.

From what I can remember, half the movie is blabbering about racial pride. Other half is capeshit action sequences.

The first half is Black Panther getting revenge for his dad by apprehending Klaue, the man who killed him. The second half is Black Panther getting the throne of Wakanda back from his radicalized American cousin, Kill-Monger, and stopping him from shipping out Wakandian weapons to ghettos so niggers can kill whitey.

Over-all, I didn't think it was a bad film. The film makes a clear distinction between Africans and African-Americans. The Wakandians don't think of things in terms of race, while with Kill-Monger, everything is about race.

Oh, and Mbaku and Klaue are the best parts of the film.

We all know that Disney is gonna take it because the faggots at the academy don't see animation as something else than a way to make their children shut up. Not that it matters anyways because the Oscars are shit.

 No.1046369

I really hope Spider-Verse gets it. I feel like it was the best animated film all year and it managed to use its cast more effectively than Incredibles 2. As for the short films, I've only seen Bao, but Bao was pretty good, so I'm hoping that wins, too.

They tried to make Killmonger's antics look like they were at least somewhat warranted while Wakanda was badwrong for its isolationism. Complete with turning Killmonger from a Wakandan born with a grudge against T'challa's family who also looked down upon other Africans into an American fighting waycism.

>They bring up other countries as "colonizers"

>Ignoring the fact that those countries helped to build up the world spreading culture and technology

>Wakanda could have done that instead of being an isolated, hidden society, which even mentions not allowing immigrants as they bring their own problems with them

>End of movie spoiler then they finally decide to share their Wakanda knowledge with the rest of the world, the same fucking world that has already been through an alien invasion, robot army war, etc just because of Black Panther fight with Killmonger

Oh I remember that. It was something Black Panther's little sister called Agent Bilbo clearly in jest.

The fact fags lost their shit over it is a testament to the sheer autism that exists on this site.

<They tried to make Killmonger's antics look like they were at least somewhat warranted

No they didn't. They clearly state that Killmonger and his father were both radicalized in the states, and Killmonger's antics are portrayed as horrible.

 No.1046453

>>1046425

>No they didn't

>T'challa didn't cancel traditional isolationist policy after his final fight with Killmonger

>T'challa didn't let Killmonger get one last Wakanda Sun after hearing his babble about muh slavery (you know, since slavery was all about Whitey being mean to the Negro)

>They clearly state that Killmonger and his father were both radicalized in the states, and Killmonger's antics are portrayed as horrible.

BP wouldn't have ended how it did if we weren't supposed to see Killmonger's actions as just a bit warranted.

 No.1046457

Black Panther won't get Best Picture for the same reason Fury Road didn't get it: Its nomination is really just an appeal to popular consensus and to fool dumb normalfags. That the Academy seeks to introduce another Oscar for "Best Popular Film" to address low ratings is telling.

Remember when cartoons..eh.. animation could win oscars WITHOUT being pushed into a niche category?

https://www.thisisinsider.com/oscars-winning-animated-movies-2018-1

Google says:

Has an animated movie won best picture?

Animated films can also be nominated for other categories, but have rarely been so; Beauty and the Beast (1991) was the first animated film ever nominated for Best Picture. Up (2009) and Toy Story 3 (2010) also received Best Picture nominations after the Academy expanded the number of nominees from five to ten.

I wouldn't go that far. It was just no better than any of them. It was certainly better than anything Fox shat out pre deadpool. Then there was Fan4stic.

Yeah I was disappointed with Klaue. I thought they were going to turn him into living sound. Which would require mo-cap which Andy Serkis is famous for.

>>1046453

Y'know I just thought of a theory. What if Killmonger and Ross were just pawns in a grand scheme for the US to get access to Wakanda. Both Killmonger and Ross are trained by the US military. The CIA could use Killmonger to overthrow Wakanda but have Ross play good cop and help T'challa defeat Killmonger and thus become indebted to Ross and America. That way the US can now manipulate Wakanda to get Vibranium.

Killmonger explicitly said that he plans to kill children too and people act like this guy is a deep complex character.

There was good commentary in Panther but I cringed whenever they brought the colonizer shit up. That's like calling all white people nazis, which is basically just as racist. They keep bringing it up even though:

A: The people from Wakanda don't even know racism or white supremacy, except the few ones living in other cities, so how is it a current topic from them.

B: Was Wakanda even a part of slavery? They keep implying they never supported any outsider, so they are just cowards without a clue.

Even more hilarious that "Wakanda Forever" was translated for the German version in a way that it sounds like the 3rd Reich. "Wakanda above everything."

Well I liked Killmonger too. Because he was actually right, except the genocide part.

Which made Black Panther and everyone else look like ignorant idiots and I lost all my sympathy in the character and Wakanda.

Killmonger would be a way more awesome Black Panther. Kinda like a black Batman.
