Every single one of them deserved better.

Least only one is dead. The rest will be forgotten forever.

Mettle lives in my heart

Pretty much all of Marvels new characters deserve better. Like 99% of them are put out for a single book and forgotten for two factors. Either they are being out-shined by the headliner that's put in to help 'push sales' and ends up sucking all the oxygen out of the environment. Any time meant to grow the new characters is pulled instead to making an already popular character do something for people to clap at. Shark Girl in Spiderman and the X-men is one of the best examples. Because the villains are weird Dinosaur obsessed super scientists she is able to appeal to their baser instincts as a shark as they are more or less prehistoric. She says that even though it was just to get in to betray them, and even being a bit repulsed by them, that she did enjoy getting legitimate attention for physical attraction as she hasn't gotten it since becoming a shark. This is sadly done through text of her directly stating it and relegated to half a page because as a 6 issue series the book has no time to breath at all, and Spiderman and the X-men is one of the best at not steamrolling characters because the new X-team was at least somewhat established already.

Other than that, new characters are forced to play second banana to Social Justice. Either the messaging in general or a direct stand-in character in particular. Most new characters being introduced have to contend with characters being 'pushed' like America Chavez or Squirrel Girl, and I dare you to find a comic book with those two in it that doesn't make you want to puke.

Is Dust still alive? She was the prominent muslim character before Marvel started pushing Kamala.

 No.1037292

Avengers Academy is a perfect example of why the Big 2 can't be taken seriously, and why there's no incentive for good writers to work for them or create original characters aside from money.

At this point, I'm not even sure anyone currently working at Marvel remembers this comic well enough to know Mettle is supposed to be dead. Given that he was killed off for cheap drama points in an extremely shitty Hunger Games ripoff that completely misunderstood why people liked Hunger Games that was also forgotten and relegated to the dustbin of bad comic book history, if these guys ever get a cameo Mettle could accidentally show out of the blue.

Maybe it's just wishful thinking on my part. I got a sentimental weakness for Mettle because he was easily my favorite character of AA, and when they killed him off it felt personally insulting. Come to think of it, I stopped reading the big two right when he died.

Well, some good news. Hazmat is gonna be in a new comic.

Just Hazmat, though. The other characters are still missing. And Mettle is still dead.

Perhaps we should storytime them to remeber the good times.

Marvel comics just can't make new good characters. Why is that?

 No.1048518

>>1048495

They don't care to. New writers coming in just want to introduce some new characters that will hopefully get picked up for an MCU movie at some point in the future so they can get royalty money out of it. That's why you'll often see new characters introduced that fill a role that could've easily gone to an already established character. The writer might be able to write the exact same story with them, but that doesn't offer the possibility of some movie moolah.

Same reason why you have such a large turnover in expanded cast. Writer finishes their run, new writer comes in, and immediately cleans ship to bring in their own OCs for a chance at a slice of royalty pie.

Why do people like the Hunger Games anyway?

Its basic premise is Battle Royale, but with a number of changes to target the YA female demographic.

 No.1057939

Personally I believe it was Battle Royale for the US mainstream when they didn't know about BR itself.
