No.1018651
I've recently discovered this was a thing that happened. I'm very curious to learn what the circumstances were to let DC and Marvel do this, given their history as uber kikes. Was it a fun time? Is it impossible for them to ever do it again?
No.1018689
I saw and flipped through a combined book of them once, I think each one only got one issue, so I imagined it would just be a bunch of origin stories.
Would have preferred team-ups with existing (comparable) heroes, TBH. Batman and Captain America for the "peak condition normal humans", or Wonder Woman and Thor for the "IRL mythological characters", for instance.

It was midway through the DC vs Marvel storyline. Basically, they got people from each company to fight another for the fate of their universe because "there can only be one". The result per 1v1 fight was voted on by fans, but it ends with them just separating.
Midway, the Spectre and the Living Tribunal merged the two universes to prevent one from destroying the other (save both). The universes themselves are also represented as two giant red or blue beings literally fighting each other who both end up merging and results in a period of Amalgam. Which characters got merged with who were done mostly on their theme or just to get a name with a pun.
Who Framed Roger Rabbit was a bigger deal just on the fact that Disney agreed to something that's pushing the "for kids" nature of the movie. That said, Disney is also the biggest reason why something like that movie will never happen again which doesn't fare well for potential Marvel crossovers.

Let's find out, starting with Amalgam Comics' Amazon, a combination of Storm from the X-Men and Wonder Woman.
No.1018722
From looking into it, Amalgam was published by both DC and Marvel, with each company doing twelve issues of the imprint between 1996 and 1997. Amazon was the first of DC's contributions to the imprint.
The second was Assassins, featuring Dare the Terminator (Daredevil+Deathstroke), Catsai (Elektra+Catwoman), Deadeye (Bullseye+Deadshot), Big Riddle (Kingpin+The Riddler), and others.
No.1018728
>>1018725
Assassins comes to a close. I was not expecting this comic to be 90s as fuck, but I dig the sort-of 90s future-esq aesthetic of Big Riddle. He's giving me a No-Man's Land Quakemaster vibe and I like it.
What I don't like is that Assassins makes me question what was the goal for the Amalgam line. This comic feels so disconnected from both Marvel and DC that it could've been it's own original property like Wildcats or Gen13. So I'm left wondering what they were trying to do here.
No.1018732
>>1018728
I guess it's supposed to be as if the Amalgam line has been on for a while. I dunno, like a defictionalized comic line or something? Or just a sneak peek to the Universe. I do like some of the concept though.

Next is a DC issue Doctor Strangefate, and it's actually rather interesting. The plot is Doctor Strangefate trying to stop Access (a character that appeared in DC versus Marvel#1) from separating the DC universe from the Marvel universe and bringing an end to the Amalgam universe.
It kind of toys with who's the good guy here. Is it Doctor Strangefate, who wants to protect his universe, or Access, who wants to return the status quo?
No.1018922
>>1018921
Doctor Strangefate aka CHARLES XAVIER fails, leaving him certain of his universe's destruction.
Also, you can tell the difference between the books DC published and the ones Marvel published in that DC went to the effort to fabricate a whole meta continuity for Amalgam, complete with letters pages and back-issues.

The appearance of Hal Jordan, especially Hal Jordan as a victim of the Guardians, concerns me. This comic came out in 1996 when Hal was still the villain Parallax, and H.E.A.T. was mailing suspicious packages to DC offices.

The design is bad (maybe deliberately) but the comic is good. Of course, the "main continuity" Darkclaw comic is as bad as Chuck Dixon & Jim Balent's Catwoman comics, but like those issues, it's also fairly fun.
