Well, this just came out. It's interesting. Seems to be a direct-from-comic adaptation, including the art style. Now it would be strange for Jhonen's style to not have evolved in 16 years but this somehow looks both more colorful and cheaper. Less in-between frames and the shadows don't lend the same sense of depth as the old show. It's just lots of colors all layered on top of each other. Your thoughts?
No.1011073
Its probably a different studio animating it, like how Maxwell Atoms had to get studio 4 degrees (or was it sunrise?) to animate the underfist special. Though it still looks nice but overall less varied.

This actually looks damn good.
The motions are slick and detailed, the colour palette is also good. (Although not as moody as I'd have liked. Everything is lighter than it used to be.).
Everything in general is detailed to a pleasing degree. Just like the old times.
Some of the expressions are a little cal-artsy but whatever. It's not to obnoxious levels.

A subtler touch, but one thing that really bugs me is that they also managed to make Gaz's design reflect her character less.
Her hair is way poofier and less crooked and while I think it's cool they incorporated her gaming addiction. I think they could have done it in a better way, especially since it's a secondary trait compared to her malice. It also desn't help that the games shirt is far less iconic than the black skull dress. (Also, why blue? Far too cheery…)

Seeing the original Dib now, it strikes me at how well his design captured that late-90's-early-00's aesthetic of 'conspiracy shutin nerd who identified with the Matrix way too much'. You know, the pale guys who wore black trenchcoats and had greasy hair tied into a ponytail. Those guys don't really exist anymore, at least not as prevalently, so I wonder if new Dib is reflective of a more modern version of that "type". Similarly, Gaz reflects the 'angry misanthropic girl' aesthetic of the mid-late 90's but that doesn't really exist as commonly either. Maybe I'm looking too much into it.
Anyway, the differences in color and design, while noticeable, are so minor that I'm interested in the show and it's a relief to see a reboot that does a good job of emulating the original style and doesn't blatantly hate the original series.

Nighttime was purple, daytime was red and brown, Irken technology was reds, lavenders and small bits of green. School was an uncomfortably cold blue for the classrooms and dingy olive for the hallways.
The restrictive color palette meant that you knew where the characters were without even examining the background. It was a remarkable achievement in color design while being completely ugly and off-putting.
The new short throws it out the window by introducing light blue and pink tones where they don't belong, actually overlighting scenes when they should be dark and creepy. It's clear that a new studio is making this cartoon because the original talent seems missing aside from the voice actors.
You can actually see how detailed the shading is in small details like the tubes going to the other houses, something the preview is lacking.

The same reason everyone stopped after the 90s were over, besides growing up and maturing that is.

That would explain why their eyes are brown, i always thought they were white. They would fit more as pale mexicans than brown ones.

Blame Nick, they didn't want to go all the way with his art style so they got someone else to design while he focused most of his energy on story telling and scripts even then they tampered with that too (his original Gaz is completely different from show Gaz, you would've known that if you actually read the thread and not shitpost like a faggot.). Plus most of his comics are black and white too much gray would have ruined the contrast, you're just bitching at this point

>the pointy style is gone for humans
I knew this was too good to be true.

The Banjo design was honestly an improvement. The old one was generic as fuck and anyone asking for a return to that is out of their gourd. Still, you're too optimistic, NormalBob.
>>1011297
The style on the right looks like some Adventure Time shit right down to Zim's disgusting Finn-like smile.

So Ms. Bitters wasn't actually a monster and that's just how the kids saw her? Was everything weird outside of Zim just Dib and Zim's warped view of the world?
No.1045833
I hope Gaz finally decides she wants to just put an end to it all. The world, that is, not her life. Mostly because Zim and Gaz need fug
