Jeeze, just let it go. It worked for the 2012 show because that had a lot of homages to the old cartoon, but with this one going out of its way to be different, it doesn't fit. It also makes it come off as more of a soulless cash in.

Just making a character black that was white before feels pretty fucking nefarious these days, and what makes it worse is that fools on Twitter and other such hugboxes would fucking have a fit if the opposite occurred, which annoys me to my very core.
Also, as an aside, the designs of this new TMNT show appeal to me in a certain way. I know no one else here will share my sentiment, but its just my opnion. I'd say it mostly comes from liking the designs of Gurren Lagann and Motor City-esqe material, which might get my hopes up for something that will never live up to them, but thats just me

Everything about the show's writing really pisses me off. Its treatment of Splinter is downright criminal. They turned him into a lazy buffoon who doesn't believe in his sons. Not to mention the turtles got the Teen Titans Go treatment and they're all selfish clowns with no regards for heroism or honor.
No.1011812
Wow.
The character design is garbage.
The animation feels very… how do I describe it? It's feels so stilted. I can FEEL the keyframes. They couldn't be more obvious if they replaced them with a white screen that said KEYFRAME in black impact font.
Leo was portrayed as useless from start to finish: Literally falling on his ass in the opening theme, and being a screw up for the entire episode. His line in the opening theme even just says, "Leo's making a scene." It's only kept from being a flat-out insult by being vague. He seems to be filling the "mildly wisecracking guy" role that Raph had in the 80s cartoon.
Don can scarcely do any wrong. I like him, but there's no need to make him "Donny-Sue."
Mike was a almost as much of a fuck-up as Leo, and yet seemed to be treated more favorably than him in the first episode. He absolutely is in the opening theme. Oh, look, a black voice actor…
Raph uses some kind of hulking, snaggle-toothed, snapping turtle design because… why? Raph is the leader now because… why? I guess his brand of emotional constipation and infantile 'roid rage displayed in the live action films appeals to the kiddies?
If I were a little more paranoid and held humanity in a bit less esteem, I might think they made Raph the leader in this incarnation just because he's voiced by a black guy and is thus, ostensibly, black. But that's crazy talk. There's nothing else to indicate they have some sort of agenda to make a bunch of the characters come across as black for no reason and then favor them over the white-voiced (read: white) characters. Nope, not one single- Oh.
Black April be talkin' all black, so you definitely don't mistake her for a white girl. The voice actress is 28 but manages to sound more like 38. This was totally a necessary and constructive direction to go in and doesn't remotely make the show-runners look like they have a distinct agenda. The problem glasses aren't a hint at the mindset behind this decision either. Move along.
What they did to Splinter was unforgivable. He looks like a round little turd, a sad rejected design from a Ren & Stimpy cartoon, who acts like a lazy, disgusting, brain dead, couch potato. Surely this qualifies as elder abuse.
This show is trash. Even ignoring the race-bating nonsense, it would be trash, just based on the animation, character design, and how they're treating the main characters.
It's the most shit-tier TMNT incarnation since that live action Christmas abomination.

April o'nig is annoying as fuck. Wasn't it enough to black her up, do you really gotta make her sassy and rushing into fights?
Raph is a big dumb brute. Why is he so big? There is no way his big dumb body fits in manholes.
Don has a fivehead and somehow eyebrows OVER his mask. The fuck?
They all suck at fighting yet are cocky and arrogant for some reason.
Worst version of splinter ever, no contest. His design alone is physically repulsive to me. This is especially jarring when you're moving on from the great 2012 splinter.
The action/animation is arguably the best part, but it's still pretty lazy. Colors are a bit too garish. Meh.
All the turtles have this odd design element that looks like they're wearing black shorts under their shells. Seriously weird. Is that supposed to be a shadow? Are they…wearing clothes under their shells? It's distracting.
Overall it's pretty bad. If the animation improved I might watch more episodes with the sound muted.

Shows getting a second season before the first season even airs happens a lot and in general is a marketing move. It's a way to get people excited for the show and think "Wow! It's getting a second season already?! It must be really good!" Funny enough, I find it's often used for bad shows. Nick is probably probably banking on the show doing at least as well as the last one and only wants a second season right away because it has short episodes and is light on continuity. That way they can plug in any random episode at any time. Airing episodes out of order and in a fluctuating time spot really screwed over the 2012 series.

I think the show is great, but I really wish hope Viacom and Nickelodeon don't use the 80s theme for every future TMNT show. Kevin Eastman co-writes and oversees the current TMNT comics, so nothing like that is going to happen. It's biggest sin is that it's become really mediocre over the last couple years. There's been too many spin offs and miniseries, a lot of them which are obviously written by "a friend of a friend" of someone at IDW who really wanted to write Ninja turtles. Especially since they end up telling shit stories that focus on their furry OC characters. There was always a furry aspect to TMNT, but the toys would at least emphasize the fact that the animal characters were mutants and make them grotesque looking. The IDW comics go the same route the Archie series went and made a lot of the characters just straight up furries.

Now, in fairness, Eastman and Laird never intended to bring back the Shredder after the first issue way back in the 80s.
They killed him, made you think he was going to come back with a didn't find the body type of scenario, and intended to tease the readers about it. Then they decided to bring him back after all, but still.
I'd say it shouldn't be too hard for Eastman to keep writing fantastic stories given the stuff he came up with in issue #2 and beyond (everything from mousers to the triceratons), but this is a franchise with a giant talking cow's head that can travel between dimensions (Cudley the Cowlick). He might well have exhausted his creativity

You can really tell that the lead artist on this abomination really wants to try and make something that is very striking and bold, but it comes off more like they saw a bunch of people on tumblr poorly attempt the same thing and just tried to copy that feel instead of understanding the ideas behind that sort of dynamic posing. Like the foot ninja guy.. You call tell he was just like "uhhh, shit, I guess I'll just stretch out and distort a bunch of stuff with half-assed foreshortening and that will make it look really punchy and impressive!" when it's just a guy really awkwardly standing around and twisting in a very boring way.

This artist really doesn't understand how perspective works. You notice it's Raph's far hand that's somehow in the foreground, and his body hasn't twisted around behind it, so it just looks like it's swollen and drooping?
Just look at Jack Kirby and Jim Steranko for how to do this kind of shot competently.
But I'm pretty sure whatever Calarts ear-gauged soyboy they trotted out for this wouldn't know who the hell they are.
Also no sense of flow. Don doesn't look like any part of a run loop, so I'd say this clown has never worked as an animator, because a run loop is the first thing you learn in animation. Leo's swipe should actually be continued behind him, look at any John Buscema Conan story. If they don't know their Buscema they haven't read How To Draw Comics The Marvel Way, and that's like the See Spot Run of mainstream cartooning, so they're not a cartoonist. Mike's splits isn't part of a jump animation, and I can't see the awkward double-reverse grip being part of an animated sequence or a martial arts routine.
So, if this artist isn't an animator, a cartoonist, or even done their research into martial arts like Eastman and Laird did, or even studied Eastman and Laird, who were very much inspired by Kirby, Bode and Miller when they created the Turtles, and definitely came from the camp of mainstream Bronze age capes, if this artist doesn't know the Turtles well enough to interpret the characters and personalities in a recognisable way, beyond Don=Geek, Raph=tough guy, Mike=goof, and Leo's just kinda there, how in the fuck did this obvious outsider land this fucking PRIMO GIG, with a style that just reeks of the sum total of their animation and cartooning ability being a bad impression of Tartakovsky? When they probably could have got the REAL Tartakovsky and the series would have been the show fans have dreamed of since the first comic?
I smell payola, nepotism, socjus politics, blowjobs, or some combination of the above.

About the Ralph punch, he asked is arm was getting bigger, having a fist or arm get bigger isn't the problem. Having a weak limp wrist that doesn't follow any punch is a problem. That each of his redraws showcases how little action is being conveyed. That you need to understand how momentum works before you even start playing with making someone's fist or arm bigger to highlight the impact of the punch.
