First official synopsis straight from the just-launched official website:
>From Warner Bros. Pictures and director James Wan comes an action-packed adventure that spans the vast, visually breathtaking underwater world of the seven seas, Aquaman, starring Jason Momoa in the title role. The film reveals the origin story of half-human, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry and takes him on the journey of his lifetime — one that will not only force him to face who he really is, but to discover if he is worthy of who he was born to be … a king.
>The film also stars Amber Heard (Justice League, Magic Mike XXL) as Mera, a fierce warrior and Aquaman’s ally throughout his journey; Oscar nominee Willem Dafoe (Platoon, Spider-Man 2) as Vulko, council to the Atlantean throne; Patrick Wilson (The Conjuring films, Watchmen) as Orm/Ocean Master, the present King of Atlantis; Dolph Lundgren (The Expendables films) as Nereus, King of the Atlantean tribe Xebel; Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Baywatch, Netflix’s The Get Down) as the vengeful Black Manta; and Oscar winner Nicole Kidman (The Hours, Lion) as Arthrur’s mom, Atlanna; as well as Ludi Lin (Power Rangers) as Captain Murk, Atlantean Commando; and Temuera Morrison (Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones, Green Lantern) as Arthur’s dad, Tom Curry.
>Wan directs from a screenplay by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick (The Conjuring 2) and Will Beall (Gangstar Squad, TV’s Training Day), story by Geoff Johns & James Wan and Will Beal, based on characters from DC, Aquaman created by Paul Norris and Mort Weisinger. the film is produced by Peter Safran and Rob Cowan, with Deborah Snyder, Zack Snyder, Jon Berg, Geoff Johns and Walter Hamada serving as executive producers.
>Wan’s team behind the scenes includes such frequent collaborators as Oscar-nominated director of photography Don Burgess (The Conjuring 2, Forrest Gump), his five-time editor Kirk Morri (The Conjuring films, Furious 7, the Insidious films), and production designer Bill Brzeski (Furious 7). They are joined by costume designer Kym Barrett (The Matrix trilogy, The Amazing Spider-Man) and composer Rupert Gregson-Williams (Wonder Woman).

God dammit man.
It was good, they kinda cram a little too much in the movie but it stands out from Marvel cookie cutter shit, the amount of interaction between Aquaman and Ocean Master is also pretty refreshing for one movie. The movie was also smart in its effects, they look way too silly so they are used in some crazy shit, the battle at the end was a fun clusterfuck of shit happening on screen.
The one thing I did like a lot was that it uses the Super Friends sound effects, when they shoot lasers they go *pew-pew* and the telepathy looks and listens pretty similar.
You niggers get it wrong with what you expect from not only Hollywood but from the movie format it general, movies suck for capes, it would be needed around 2 movies at least to accurately adapt a short volume of a cape with a single villain much less a connected universe and that's were cape movies are fucking up, they're trying to adapt more than they are making something more fitting for the format, so it doesn't matter if they are making a cinematic universe each movie can't be all it could possibly.
Under current norms, this movie is as good as it gets.

It's not a bad superhero movie. All considered:
>It doesn't focus too much on setting up an expanded universe. The villains live (which in this case works out for a movie that's supposed to be set in a wider universe) but there's still plenty of closure. It's self-contained.

Honestly, I went in expecting absolutely nothing and really only was going because a friend of mine baught me a ticket, I was surprised at how much I liked it. It went through several fun genres before it got to the final fight scene which was also pretty cool. Probably the best super hero movie since they all went to shit after Disney took over, and easily the best DC movie since Dark Knight.
Also, bonus points for the director not being afraid of colors.
No.1042579
I've just seen it and like it a lot. It's colorful, creative, looks great and most of all it's fun. Also, it's pretty unpozzed, all things considered. There's a slight environmental message, but they don't hammer it in and drop it pretty quickly. Cons are that it's a bit long, the script has a few weak moments, the acting's a bit lackluster and Aquaman and Mera have zero chemistry. Still, I'd put it way above the generic Marvel trash.
No.1042616

Feel the same way. Momoa carries the film. He didn't have the best lines but he makes up for it with charisma. The colorfulness of the film reminded me of Avatar. There were some weak acting parts here and there (mostly from that kid actor) but you don't get too much screen time for them so it can be overlooked. There was some obvious scene or cgi stitching in the early parts of the film. It certainly feels like this movie should have come out before they rushed to get to Justice League. It's solidly above average for me. It's a simple story told well enough. It honestly felt like a fantasy story than a hard super hero action movie like what marvel puts out.

>felt like a fantasy story than a hard super hero action movie
That was definitely one of the things I liked most about it, but it also didn’t completely abandon the super hero theme and there were several parts that definitely felt like a good super hero flick. It goes from action/adventute, to treasure hunting and traveling, to horror, to super hero flick on a dime and does it well, and it was nice the director had some reverence for the source material and designs where as most of the DC directors just throw everything out.
Also, the way they animated Ocean Masters helmet was a really nice touch and I’d like to see them do that with more masks.

Entertaining enough movie. Lot of shit didnt make sense though. Power levels, for instance, are highly inconsistent. Aquaman forces a sub to surface to start, tears off bulkheads and one shots every single pirate, but manta takes multiple hits? He wasnt even pulling punches. He outright killed every one of them tossing bulkheads at mach 1 into guys that send them flying 20 ft into more steel. They all died. Except Manta gets hits (dont do damage, but hit him) and takes punches and shit for a while.
Later, they establish they move at like 100 knots or some shit, but need fish shaped subs to get around and there is so much damn traffic to atlantis that the bridge/border has hundreds of people lined up for it? wtf is going on in this hidden undersea kingdom? theres no outlying towns/villages. why arent they already inside? how much fucking traffic can there be? why does anyone need these ships? if the ships are so good and required, why the fuck do they use shark and seahorse mounts? they arent good for combat and must be slower than vehicles (otherwise, the domesticated sharks and shit would be used as general transportation too).
mera has the strongest power in the fucking movie, yet is always weak or op. she fucking ruins oceanmaster in the arena. he was dead if she wanted it. why wasnt that used ever again? her ability to make air pockets should be the most broken thing underwater when only highborns can breathe air. could have took out entire platoons with that tornado and put them in air pocket like she did to ocean man. and in the fight with the guards/manta, why the fuck run away? she fucked up half of them instantly. she controls water. their inside suits are filled with water and required to breathe. turn them into spikes. she can control shit inside bottles like the wine later. just fucking make a pocket of air near the face. every guard should have been taken out instantly with her powers. shes so inconsistent with powers, its infuriating. shes also a water manipulator. she was going to the desert/on land. why didnt she fill a bottle or gourd or some shit and have it on her person to manipulate and use as weapon at all times? hell, she can pull water from bodies like she did to aquaman. just dehyrdrate anyone she fights.
a big plot hole was the tidal waves used on teh world. how did they do it? mera is only one with water powers shown. no magic maguffin used. no special tech. its never shown or explained how they did it. how did they get pollution to wash ashore? did they gather it up for months on end first? why fight the world when they could just drown them with this magic tidal wave maker? they took out large chunk of aircraft carriers and military it said. thats hundreds of billions lost. they literally destroyed the economy if everycoast was hit as implied (town aquaman is in had like 90% homes wiped out it said). were talking trillions in destruction. effectively the world markets crashed and most countries shoudl be devastated. but this magic tidal wave power is never used again. they could have stolen military experiment and turned it against world or explained it somehow. they could explain why they didnt use it again or what caused it.
finally (only because getting too long already), the super advanced undersea tech is so fucking pathetic it gets destroyed by sharks and seahorses and turtles. last time i checked, tank shells are stronger than sharks. combined with most of army requiring reverse scuba gear to go on land and this "advanced civilization" doesnt stand a fucking chance of conquering anyone above water. what was their fucking plan? some crab men were fucking up the 3 largest tribes combined. they had massive losses even before aquaman showed up. and aquaman fucking killed the entire crab man tribe. wtf was that? like literal genocide with the brood queen kraken thing he came up through the ground with. wasnt he going to save them? he killed them all. millions dead.

This for me. I like the part where they entered Atlantis, seeing the neon city with sloping buildings reminded me of asari architecture from mass effect. The fight scenes themselves were also gratefully shot wide out and in one motion, so you get a sense of the action but you don't get a sense of the blows. Having Atlanna take out 5 guys at the beginning wasn't as satisfying as Momoa using concrete bollards like a bolo and smashing Manta's helmet open. The nig who also played Manta was pretty fucking dry to be honest, he's a failed netflix actor with an arab name. First time I saw him a guffawed at how ugly he looked, cause his nostrils were flaring and it was a face close up.
I wanna say the movie is good but some scenes were obvious CG and that won't age well coupled with something missing. The story somehow felt hollow and I'm not quite sure how to explain it. But yeah, 5/10.

Never because they're afraid to use Green Lantern again as if it's the brand and not the frequently company incompetence that's the issue.

Maybe they can hire RR to be GL. That would be nice.

Nothing in the movie felt "real." Nothing felt like it actually existed. I never thought Atlantis was a real place, I never thought Aquaman or Ocean Master or Mera were real people, I never thought anything that happened in the movie actually mattered. The movie was competently put together and looked good and made sense, but it didn't feel like a single person involved believed in what they were making. I think the only thing in the entire movie that made me feel like I was watching real people was Black Manta. The whole movie worked better as his origin story than anything else the movie wanted to do.

For me it was the script.
Too much exposition and too much story forced in one single movie.
The best part were the main actor and black manta, the fights were good but the story was a mess.
It is 6/10
