The Annual Meeting of the Southern Baptist Convention is underway in Birmingham, Alabama.
The SBC is the world's largest Protestant and Protestant Evangelical denomination, and the largest Evangelical missionary agency with the "Internation Mission Board" and "North American Mission Board".
Short summary of events:
Every Southern Baptist church sends messengers to the convention to receive reports from Convention leadership and to vote on proposed resolutions. In the literal sense, this is the only annual time that the convention exists. This year it's Tuesday and Wednesday morning and evening.
This is also the time that the news attacks the convention, so there's scandal in the headlines. Because of the "#MeToo" moment, sexual abuse has become an urgent issue across the culture including the SBC.
