There are many miracles in the bible but no miracle made anyone have faith; when the Israelites were about to enter the promised land they didn't have enough faith even though they should have been the ones who KNEW God was on their side, they witnessed the parting of the red sea, God provided mana for them yet they didn't the believe God was capable of protecting them so every single one of them died not making it to the promised land.

Miracles can deceive as well; a group of Christians called Pentecostals allegedly performed miracles causing many to be deceived. Scientists are able to perform many miracles by feeding the hungry and healing the sick so people put their faith in science rather than God. Even false prophets can perform miracles, Jesus said that the ones who cry out "Lord, Lord" will be casting out demons and performing great signs.

We cry out "Lord, Lord" yet we do not follow the teachings of Jesus, we don't trust that God will protect us, we trust society and the military and police to protect us and for that we will all die and never make it to the new promised land.

I remember very early on in my faith, when I had first gone from being ignorant and lukewarm to kindling some passion, I was eager for something amazing or miraculous to happen to me. I threw myself into studying the end times, falsely proclaiming myself an expert on them. I convinced myself that I had an experience like Paul where I had been briefly blinded, only to have my sight restored when I prayed. (It was midnight and pitch-black, I don't think I was really blinded) A youth group preacher I was listening to at the time claimed to "see a great healing in me" yet he also told us about another man who, early in his faith and eager for something to happen to him, made up an elaborate dream or vision which he shared with churches, only to later confess he made up.

My question is, why do people who genuinely believe feel the need to falsely claim these things?

>Jesus said that the ones who cry out "Lord, Lord" will be casting out demons and performing great signs.

The ones crying out "Lord, Lord" claim to cast out demons and perform signs, but are they really doing so? Jesus was able to cast out demons through the Holy Spirit, he himself said a kingdom divided against itself cannot stand.

Thomas needed to see Christ's wounds to believe the resurrection, that's a miracle that brought faith.

The real question here is cessationism vs continuationism

That's easy. The signs mentioned in Mark 16:17-18 were given to indicate the apostles specifically, you would only see those signs follow one of the 1st century apostles. That's why we don't have snake handlers or speaking in foreign tongues. Those things were fulfilled already in scripture. "Whether there be tongues, they shall cease".

Also, and I shouldn't even have to add this, but speaking in gibberish like what charismatics do is not the same thing; that's just demonic. All Biblical mention of speaking in tongues involves an actual foreign language being understood by someone who speaks that language. Charismatics cannot, and never do that. But we all already knew that.

There's really no debate, among Christians, on these clear cut facts.

I agree with you, but there are good arguments for continuationism from non-charismatics
