What is /christian/'s take on this topic? I don't practice it myself but as I understand it, christian vegetarianism has a long history among both laity and clergy, so I feel it's certainly something that at least deserves some contemplation.

my take is that it's more or less unhealthy. it's not necessarily unhealthy, but it usually ends up that way. The covenant with Noah's family is not only with mankind, but also with all living creatures. they all poses souls. Nephesh in Hebrew. The Breath of Life. I have no doubt there is a place in heaven once parousia happens for our animals. I do not believe it is wrong to kill and eat animals, if you treat them with love. Actually, I believe prayer should be said whenever an animal is slaughtered. Care should be taken to not let your beast suffer. Further, you give them a good life. There will be no need to slaughter animals for food when Christ returns. And I'm sure our animal friends who provide us food and companionship will be there with us.

It's certainly good to be temperate and especially to fast, but the whole "Meat is murder" thing is self-righteous nonsense, and in effect, attempting to condemn Christ himself. He ate fish and passover meals.

I agree. It's unreasonable and demeaning to our Lord.

Thanks for letting my typo slide. I just noticed I said "hate fish" (instead of ate).
But yes, if it's OK with Christ, then who am I? This is all I need to feel OK about meat.

IIRC, Methodist leader John Wesley was vegetarian, in part due to Isaiah 11 which he understood to mean that there will be no death or hunting in heaven. But he mainly did it for health reasons; he wrote that all his stomach illnesses stopped after he stopped eating meat.
