Could someone explain what this is supposed to be?

Looks like a variant of the cross of Saint Nino.

I really hope so. It might just be the cynical brain of someone used to the sight of aberrations like the rainbow cross of Pope Bergoglio (see pic 1), but my first thought was a penis defaced by overlapping dual boomerangs. The geometric similarity to a lingam (see pic 2), a pagan idol that is literally meant to resemble a black penis, does not exactly increase my confidence.

Of lower priority, but still interesting, is the pectoral cross being worn by the cardinal (?) to the left of the priest. It is, more obviously, a Latin Cross, but appears to have the horizontal bars replaced by thin and clasped hands rendered in a post-modernistic style?

I wonder if someone could shed light upon that, or if this too is another incident of the geometry of our Lord's Cross being retooled because it's not visually appealing or hip with the kids enough. Long-standing Tradition is traditional for a reason, especially with respect to the instruments of our Lord's Sorrowful Passion.

It is really disheartening, and signals an interest in prioritizing airs of mysticism and otherness over serious commitment to the liturgical Tradition and Ecclesiastical integrity of our Lord's Great Church. But such is a sign of the times; such lower-priority things will likely not even remain in our consciousness on the glorious Day of Judgment, when fullness of Catholic Orthodoxy is finally restored in full and those who oppose the Christ are given their due reward. May the day of Christ's Second Advent be soon, for we know neither the day nor the hour. Amen.

Looks like two boomerangs over, a mask or shield? Could just be a native artistic variant of the cross.

You're overthinking things, only the thing signified is immutable, not the symbol itself, as languages are myriad of ways of expressing realities.

>the rainbow cross of Pope Bergoglio

That isn't what you think it is. Stop overthinking things and just look it up.

Relax, dude. I'm Catholic too. Not being a fan of everything that one of our current popes does is not to be construed as an attack on his personage, but rather on the psychopathic agenda he is advancing within our beloved ecclesia and the strange tactics he undertakes to accomplish that same agenda. lol

In this particular case it's possible that I am overthinking it. I see things that hint even slightly towards further anti-tradition gradualism and my mind races. 'Tis definitely something I must continue to work on. Thanks for calling me out on it.

Did you look up what the cross he was wearing at that particular even on that particular day was? That's all you had to do. You could also look up the fact that every Pope in the history of Popes has had a variation of the Cross - starting with Peter, who was crucified upside down!
