So how do you actually start BELIEVING in God and Jesus? I mean I understand the importance and benefits of christianity and the word and sacrifice of Jesus Christ.

But deep in my mind there is always a voice of rationality in my head that tells me "Yeah, it's good stuff and all but it's all metaphorical and probably highly exaggerated and althoug Jesus was a real person his ressurection was symbolical too and not an actual event".

See what I mean? I'm not able to see the events in the bible as actual historically accurate events that happened as described in the bible. Jesus always reminds us of the importance of faith and how you can do anything if you believe. But how do I actually start to believe in something that I think can't possibly be true? Or do you think it's okay seeing Jesus as a metaphorical figure and it doesn't matter if he really ascended?

I prayed for faith to Saint Rocco, patron saint of bad knees and dogs. I have bad knees and am a dog.

Now I see the hand of God in the Big Bang (or Big Mush as my Physics professor puts it). I see God working his world not as a mechanical clock, but on a quantum level of elementary particles. Imagine controlling the universe by moving around fermions!

And when I look at the works of Steven Hawking, and his "many universe theory" or Feynman and his "everything quantum mechanically happens" I realize both hit the wall of the supernatural and are trying to explain the incredible impossibility of our existence, ergo God.

That every human culture tries to find God is an anthropological fact. Which of these man religions is the true religion? Obviously, the one that was the most blessed… the Roman Catholic Religion that created the greatest civilization humanity has ever seen. THAT is the one God wants us to follow.

Don't question it, don't try to out think God who created the universe from nothing (the Big Bang) and manipulates the universe on by quantum mechanics, just go with it! The Church teaching has elements in it that the people 2000 years ago couldn't possibly have known. It is supernatural and divine in origin. Just believe it, even if you know a little more than a person from Christ's time on Earth.

Theologically faith comes from the grace of God, the indwelling of the Holy Spirit from within you, not from man's will. In order to "gain" faith you must practice the religion. You must live free from grave sins so you are not damaging your soul and you must maintain a clear relationship with God and pray regularly. If you want faith firstly pray for it and live it. You can fully rationalize Christianity in your head but still be dead in spirit, I've been there. Good works can help as well, which is why it's said that faith without works is dead, even if you don't personally believe in "works salvation" doing good to others is one of the more reliable ways to see and feel God. After all Jesus himself in Matthew 25:40-46 that whatever you do for the least of all people, you do for him.
