You misunderstand Christianity if you think this.
We do not believe in life for its own sake. All things, both on earth and the hereafter, are for the glorification of and union with God. There would be no merit whatsoever in "eternal life" if it lacked the intrinsic quality of union with God. Indeed, even many of the commandments that God gave us have no real inherent quality or value, no moral character, but we do them anyway simply because God declared that this is how we can become closer to Him.
Understand this: "heaven" as it is presented in popular culture is simply a novelty. It gets people interested, but it doesn't keep them around because it is ultimately an abstraction. Those truly committed to Christ have no need for novelties, because they know that the Holy Spirit is with them here on this Earth. In spending their lives in pursuit of God, they have already experienced that which is to come.
