The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

My dad wants me to yard work and I'm not sure if I can. (I'm Catholic)

Sounds like b8, but just in case.

Remember two things:

The Sabbath is one day, not two. You don't get out of working the whole weekend.

The Sabbath is for man, not man for the Sabbath, and your relationship with God should be personal. You need to figure this out for yourself. For some people, yard work is incredibly satisfying and refreshing, especially if you work an office job. For other people, it's like another day of work. If you're the first, do it. If you're the second, do all of your yard work one day so you can take the other weekend day as a Sabbath.

I would feel neutral about doing the work

Honoring your parents with yard work seems okay to me. I have to work a 10 hour shift at my new job today, which unfortunately cuts into Sunday Mass and much of my free time, so I'm a bit agitated over that and would not recommend that sort of "work" (which doesn't honor anyone but your employer on the Sabbath).

Honor your parents and do the yard work anon. Offer the work up to God as a form of prayer.

<And he said to them: The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath. -Mark 2:27

In a sense, you can do a lot on a Sunday, but earning money isn't really one of them unless your job absolutely requires you to work on Sunday.

The Catholic stance is you shouldn't do servile work (a job for money), but even then it's OK if it's can't be delayed and helps people. (Doctor working a shift in the E.R. is OK, doctor doing elective plastic surgery is out).

Catholic Church teaching is that you can do no more than 2 1/2 hours of necessary work on Sunday. Any more is a mortal sin unless excused by your priest.

Is the work necessary? Since you must honor your Father and your Mother, It would appear so. I'd ask your parish priests.
