The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

I'm listening to a video from Fulton J Sheen and I don't understand where he's coming from. He closes one of his sermons saying:

>How this story got to Earth I have no idea: Our Blessed Lord was walking around the golden Gates of Heaven and he saw some souls that had gotten into Heaven very easily. And he went to Peter and he said "Peter I've given you the keys to the Kingdom of Heaven, you are to exercise that power wisely and judiciously, tell me Peter how did these souls gain entry into my kingdom?"

>and Peter said "Don't blame me Lord, every time I close the door, Your Mother, opens a window."

My questions are what is this sermon based on? Certainly it's not scriptural. Is Fulton J Sheen widely regarded in the Catholic Church? IDK if I should take him seriously.

Mary is the Queen of Heaven the Mother of Mercy. Like how the queen of Israel advocated for the common Israeli during the time of the Kingdom of Israel to the king of Israel, Jesus' blessed mother advocates for us on our behalf during our judgment.

1 Kings

{2:19} Then Bethsabee came to king Solomon, to speak to him for Adonias: and the king arose to meet her, and bowed to her, and sat down upon his throne: and a throne was set for the king's mother, and she sat on his right hand.

{2:20} And she said to him: I desire one small petition of thee; do not put me to confusion. And the king said to her: My mother ask, for I must not turn away thy face.

{2:21} And she said: Let Abisag, the Sunamitess, be given to Adonias, thy brother, to wife.

{2:22} And king Solomon answered, and said to his mother: Why dost thou ask Abisag, the Sunamitess, for Adonias? ask for him also the kingdom; for he is my elder brother, and hath Abiathar, the priest, and Joab, the son of Sarvia.

{2:23} Then king Solomon swore by the Lord, saying: So and so may God do to me, and add more, if Adonias hath not spoken this word against his own life.

Yes.

As for what he was saying it sounds like he was making a joke about how Mary interceding on our behalf for sinners and laying our prayers before the throne of Jesus can help us into heaven.

Here have a better one where Venerable Fulton Sheen is at his best discussing spending an hour in silence contemplating the Lord and his glory.

It's not supposed to be taken a story that literally happened. It's just a quick and witty illustration of the point Bishop Sheen was trying to make. That point is that Mary's prayers for us are an abundant supplier of God's graces and mercy, and that her intervention helps us to go to Heaven. Assuming you're a Catholic yourself, this is something the Catholic Church teaches.
