There is nothing wrong in that phrase. Some of the greatest saints were grave sinners. St. Augustine was an adulterer. St. Paul literally murdered christians. St. Mary of Egypt was a harlot. St. Moses the black was a bandit. St. Olaf was a literal VIKANG that raped and pillaged villages. So on and so forth.
The sins of someone past doesn't disqualify someone from sainthood as long as they repent from the sins and do good works afterwards.
There is a saying in my church:
>Those with the greatest sins are most entitled to God's mercy. All they have to do is ask.
