You don't have to be forceful in order to tell them about your faith. Open a dialogue, politely answer questions, be honest, and learn when to stop talking.

Give them the gospel. If you're playing a game and your friend dies say "More important than your character dying, is you're going to die but do you know if when you do you're on your way to Heaven?"

I have never said to abandon them. He should preach to them and if they reject the lord then he should be done with them. A Christian shouldn't get close with ungodly people.
