The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

Is it wrong that I find II Kings 2: 23-24 humorous?

>“From there Elisha went up to Bethel. As he was walking up the path, some small boys came out of the city and harassed him, chanting, ‘Go up, baldy! Go up, baldy!’ He turned around, looked at them, and cursed them in the name of the Lord. Then two female bears came out of the woods and mauled 42 of the children.”

Maybe it's just my warped sense of humor but I can't help but break out in laughter. I don't mean it to downplay God in his righteous judgement and punishment, but it just seems like an amusing way to dish said justice out

You're fine. It is meant to be a cautionary tale, darkly humorous. Consider the author, after all.

I think my favorite bit of oddity in the Bible is the story of Samson tying foxes together by the tail, setting them on fire, and releasing them into the Philistines's fields because his father-in-law gave his wife away.

Weird translation.

The OSB says:

>From there he went up to Bethel. Along the way some young boys came from the city who continued teasing him by saying, “Go up, baldy, go up!” So Elisha turned around and stared at them. He then cursed them in the name of the Lord, and two female bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of the boys. From there he went to Mount Carmel, and from there he returned to Samaria.

The text speaks of "young boys", with the implication that they're maybe a gang of adolescents. What translation do you use that calls them "children"?

Besides, I really do not see where you find humor in this story.

However I agree that some of Samson's story is humorous, both in the ways the wicked try to trick him, and in the way he responds. Samson had no chill.

It just seems like such an excessive thing.

I just got the translation from a Google search, not sure which one it is, but I use KJV at home and it calls them "little children"

I've heard it supposed they were mocking the report that Elijah had been taken up by a whirlwind (same chapter), and telling Elisha essentially to follow suit and to end his own life, that's what "go up bald head" may have been intended to mean.

>Samson had no chill.

It's not called the Samson Option for no reason!
