The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

They're gonna build another one, right?

A "spiritual" temple maybe.

Chill, it's not even that bad. That building survived Robespierre no sweat, fire isn't going to undo our lady's church.

What do you mean build? The only need to rebuild the roof. The Lord spared the inside.

>posts this under a picture of the 'idols' around the altar being miraculously preserved

Quite a damper on the party you and your Saracen friends were about to star.

why are you so attached to worldly edifices anon? Does this mean French Catholics gonna become like Jews now and start praying in front of ruined temple walls in vain hopes that a structure will get rebuilt some day?

Wasn't that Cain's logic? Why offer beauty to God when I can just do a mediocre effort?

And any man of faith of course is not happy when beauty dedicated to God's glory is ruined.

899dc2  No.796770

>>796757

the point wasn't that beauty is pointless, it was that being attached to a particular expression of beauty that God has obviously destroyed for some reason, is dubious.

How many protestant churches burned or were bombed or destroyed by tornadoes?

Beauty is created by men to please God, investing their God given skills, money, labour, etc. ie doing as much as humanly possible to please God out of love for God. It's nothing more than a natural expression of that love.

All that comes from God is good, beauty is good, therefore it comes from God. And the more beautiful something is, the more 'goodness' it has, therefore it's closer to God. Now, to claim that for some reason God does not like the highest degrees of beauty ie the degrees that are the closest to him, is dubious.

>Now, to claim that for some reason God does not like the highest degrees of beauty ie the degrees that are the closest to him, is dubious.

Yes, so why are you implying that's what was said? A "particular expression of beauty" in this case, clearly meant the Notre Dame cathedral specifically. You can call that "the highest degrees of beauty" or whatever, but that doesn't exclude other designs from reaching that same degree of beauty. So why are we discussing rebuilding this specific building instead of just letting go and creating something new and more beautiful instead? Once again, the issue here is the attachment, not the beauty.

f7f45b  No.796785

>>796783

The attachment comes from knowing that this particular expression of beauty cannot be recreated. It is a result of blood, sweat and tears of the citizens of Paris, it is a physical manifestation of their love of God. Think about it this way: people thought well how can I use my 2 hands to spread God's glory? and built it.

We can't restore the Rose window that burned because we don't know the technique anymore. We can't rebuild the roof without steel supports. Simply put, in all likelihood, we can't create something more beautiful. Have you seen how modern churches look? Are you sure the modern man can create beauty anymore?

And again, there's nothing wrong with being attached to a form of beauty that is pretty much no longer obtainable.
