another thing that is blowing my mind lately: is the entire well with the Samaritan woman…a metaphor for prayer? She is talking to Jesus, alone… and she is…not a virgin (dirty / sinful … just like us…during prayer…with Jesus the bridegroom/…husband?). There are so many possibilities with metaphors and meanings in that section….layers upon layers upon layers!

Or, here's a wild thought, not everything in the Scripture is metaphor and it's just Jesus the Son of God talking to a woman and by speaking to her he shows that He has come for all mankind, social taboos should not keep us from spreading His message of salvation and that's all it is. There are no layers upon layers within it.

Honestly, trying to find a metaphor for everything in the Bible has done more harm than good, I think, for Biblical scholarship and understanding.

Name one metaphor from the actual church that was harmful. I don't care about heretics or New Agers. It's not their book and they do not have the Holy Spirit. But if you do have the Spirit, he'll reveal and teach many things to you through the Word. They are a limitless well, for God is eternal. Don't reduce him to literalism and think scripture is about autistic quibbling. That's always been the Pharisee way (and the overly Juridical imperial way as well).

It is insulting that you would read the Word of God like a mere textbook or novel and squander the Spirit.

Just so you know, reading the Bible purely at immediate face value was never a thing until a few centuries ago.

"I and the Father are one" is the usual starting place.

I'm not claiming the trinity isn't co-equal. I'm asking if that can be proved purely through scripture.

The bible says there is only one God, and that the Paraclete, Christ and Father are God. How is that not co equality? Anymore would be polytheism anything less idolatry.
