I am not going to even attempt to describe the multitude of different things that could possibly happen in the future, but I recently found this Isaac Arthur video on Virtual Worlds and would like to ask /christian/ to watch it and give me your thoughts afterwords. How does Christianity and religion in general apply, if at all, to hyper-real virtual worlds? Assuming we aren't raptur'd first.

>Assuming we aren't raptur'd first.

No need to worry about that. It will never happen. It's just the product of 19th century protestant imagination.

Depends on how you look at it I guess. One can see it as a big distraction that can pull you away from God, others I'm sure can utilize it in a way that can give glory to Him. Personally, I have no reason to escape the real world and I hope yall don't either.

Isaac Arthur is pretty great. I think this anon describes it best: >>775256

I haven't watched this video, but I saw one where he talks about things like "uploading" your mind (making a virtual copy of it) and then downloading it into a platform (another body, whether biological, mechanical or a cyborg). I think this is more problematic from a Christian standpoint and I'd like to hear some opinions on it. I'm not really a fan of the concept, and I don't think it could work because you need the soul to command the body and the brain and the soul is immaterial.

The rapture isn’t in Revelation.

Nowhere is it stated that the Church won’t be present for the tribulations.

Why are people so fixated on space? Seems like the world worships those like Elon Musk and videos like this when they could be focusing on any other field of science that is possible and available now.

>Why are people so fixated on space?

I think it is apart of our human nature to want to expand. We gotta put all the extra humans somewhere when Earth gets too crowded.

>Seems like the world worships those like Elon Musk

Well, when an African smooth talks about grand technology and than can back it up with results people tend to cling to his words. It also doesn't help Elon Musk is the only billionaire to embrace meme culture and the only billionaire I know of to become a meme.

>rapture not in revelation

Revelation 20:2-5 and Revelation 11:15-19

>we won't be on earth

i truly hope you're right about that. if I'm not mistaken though, there are other versions that say otherwise

My stance is simply that the whole notion of "uploading one's mind" is fiction. Pure fiction. Nobody will ever find a way to do this. What they'll do is find a way to produce a program that, as far as we humans can see, emulates your behaviour 99% perfectly. Then, they'll upload that program into a machine and [cough] "delete" you.

>Revelation 20:2-5

>2 And he seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years, 3 and threw him into the pit, and shut it and sealed it over him, so that he might not deceive the nations any longer, until the thousand years were ended. After that he must be released for a little while. 4 Then I saw thrones, and seated on them were those to whom the authority to judge was committed. Also I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for the testimony of Jesus and for the word of God, and those who had not worshiped the beast or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years. 5 The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended. This is the first resurrection.

Huh, would you look at that. Doesn’t say “the Church will not endure the tribulations”. Interesting.

>Revelation 11:15-19

>15 Then the seventh angel blew his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven, saying, “The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he shall reign forever and ever.” 16 And the twenty-four elders who sit on their thrones before God fell on their faces and worshiped God, 17 saying,

>“We give thanks to you, Lord God Almighty,

who is and who was,

for you have taken your great power

and begun to reign.

>18 The nations raged,

but your wrath came,

and the time for the dead to be judged,

and for rewarding your servants, the prophets and saints,

and those who fear your name,

both small and great,

and for destroying the destroyers of the earth.” 19 Then God's temple in heaven was opened, and the ark of his covenant was seen within his temple. There were flashes of lightning, rumblings,[a] peals of thunder, an earthquake, and heavy hail.

Well gosh darn, that doesn’t say anything about Christians not being present for the tribulations either. Fascinating.
