The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

I was asked this week by a friend if I would like to go sport/target shooting Sunday afternoon (not at a range). Although this would not be making work for others, or preventing anyone from observing the Lord's Day, something about it makes me uncomfortable. What is everyone's opinion on target/sport shooting on a Sunday?

seems fine to me

same tbh. although it seems fine in the sense that nothing in the bible forbids it, if you believe it to be God telling you not to do it, then don't do it

chilling and shooting is the opposite of labour u good m8

I opine that shooting is martial training thus counts as work.

Really the best way to honour the Lords day is to spend time recreating with family.

If its done for recreation and its just off shooting some targets and enjoying the sport of it with your friend you shouldn't feel bad. If for whatever reason going out and doing this will stop you from giving the Lord your attention and worship on your day off, or keeps you from spending time with family, etc. Then I'd say to put it off. As for worrying about making work for others, your friend will enjoy shooting with you and won't consider putting out a few targets or cans or whatever as work. You could help set up yourself while you're at it, its for your recreation so its not really work in the sense the sabbath forbids. As for preventing others from observing the Lord's day read below I'm sure they can offer the same prayers.

So enjoy your Sunday to the fullest and thank the Lord at the end of the day for all the fun He has blessed you with that day, your friend, the shooting, the out doors, thank Him for the lot of it.

God bless you anon.

Oy Vey goyim! You don't understand how much work it is to turn off the lights! Thank G-d we have the local police to turn off the lights for us.

>Orthodox Jews cannot drive a car — save for cases of life and death — during the 25 hours of the Sabbath, which begins at sundown every Friday and lasts until one hour after sundown on Saturday. Often, members of the Orthodox community have called police in order to handle seemingly routine tasks such as changing batteries in hearing aids and turning lights on and off because it is akin to starting or extinguishing a fire, which the rules of the Sabbath prohibit.

So be more understanding and not such a bigot, goy!

<dialing 9-1-1, taking several minutes to explain your situation and exact location to the dispatcher, walking to your front door, unlocking and opening it for the officers, pointing out the exact light switch that needs to be flipped, and escorting the officers out as you lock the door behind them isn't work

<but flipping the light switch yourself is

As for target shooting on Sunday, I don't believe there's anything wrong with that… the only things I might do to save yourself some "work" are

>loading your magazines/clips/speed loaders with ammunition prior to sunday (make sure it isn't a crime in your jurisdiction to have them loaded in your vehicle)

>cleaning your guns another day (assuming you have the time to do it during the week and aren't a bad procrastinator)

Makes your Sunday less of a chore, and gives you an extra hour or two to spend with God and family on that day.
