I always find it amusing how determined some Protestants are to escape the Protestant label. Reminds me of the mental gymnastics my old modernist church did.

Not an actual conversation that took place, but that was their logic anyway, which is no different than the OP's. If you refuse to be part of the Church but call yourself Christian, your denomination is Protestant. Simple as that.
