Pray without ceasing. God is always listening. There should be no real transition in our lives from formality to God and then sinking back in some informal "mindspace" that somehow just has consciousness of the physical world around us. When we find ourselves here, snap out of it. God is always there, so spiritually look up in everything, if possible. That is the goal at least. May we all reach it. And our formal sense of supplication should be private, or even in the closet, as Jesus said. "And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Amen I say unto you, They have their reward. But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly." When we're together, in church, or gathered some other way, that should be when we have the privilege to be more external.
