The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

Do you pray before every meal and say grace? What do you do if you're eating with secular people? When should you not say grace (if ever)?

If you can't pray out loud, a simple "Thank you Lord for the food" in your head and a sign of the cross should amply suffice. You do not need many words for God to hear you.

I do it anywhere anytime and I keep it humble and simple. Put my hands together, say my prayer quietly and done; no grandstanding. Yes, I do it even in public, in restaurants, in front of my friends and strangers, etc. No reason not to.

Pray without ceasing. God is always listening. There should be no real transition in our lives from formality to God and then sinking back in some informal "mindspace" that somehow just has consciousness of the physical world around us. When we find ourselves here, snap out of it. God is always there, so spiritually look up in everything, if possible. That is the goal at least. May we all reach it. And our formal sense of supplication should be private, or even in the closet, as Jesus said. "And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Amen I say unto you, They have their reward. But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly." When we're together, in church, or gathered some other way, that should be when we have the privilege to be more external.

Than don't eat it. It's not rocket science.

Yes. It's one of the few times I remember to pray. During the day I forget unless it's to give thanks for something that happened. I pray in front of everyone. The world can get mad. Don't care.

I live in the South, so most people do the same, and if they don't, they feel guilty when they see someone else doing it. The only time you shouldn't pray is to make a show like you're some pious person. I pray to give thanks and to ask for blessings, not to look any way in front of someone. If it inspires someone else to pray more often, then good, but it's not my purpose.

A quiet prayer to myself is all I do. If people choose to join me or wait for me to eat, so be it. My prayer is for God, not for the table. Sometimes I see people in restaurants join hands and pray loudly and I think to myself, "Who are they trying to impress?"

I do the sign of the cross and silently thank God for having something to eat.

You gave me a flashback to Christmas at my Grandma's a couple of years ago. We made the mistake of letting her bless the food before we ate, and she proceeded to pray for each individual there, all 30+ people. When she was done we had to get up and reheat the food.

Lord bless her.

Used to do that.

If people can get martyred and persecuted for simply practicing the faith I can handle praying grace silently with secular people.
