The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

What about churches who are in communion with Rome but celebrate the Byzantine rite (Melkite and Russian Catholic)? If you are Catholic and live in a place also with Novus Ordo and Tridentine options, would it be sinful or would it be putting your faith in danger to go there sometimes because you like the Eastern aesthetics ? Don't these churches have an Eastern theology as well?

There's nothing wrong with going to a church of a different rite.

Just as there's nothing wrong with an orthodox going to a western rite parish.

Eastern theology isn't heretical.

Eastern Orthodox ECCLESIOLOGY is a problem, from a catholic POV.

So they believe in the Immaculate Conception?

I think that going to a different rite because of "muh aesthetics" is not the best reason to do so. If you don't appreciate the religion you have at home, you won't appreciate the same religion if it's painted a slightly different color. If you do then you have missed the entire point of the religion to begin with.

>Don't these churches have an Eastern theology as well?

It depends. On paper, yes. In reality… they usually do, although Melkites are a pretty unusual case, as they openly defy Rome and have done so since the Zoghby Initiative. I mean rejecting the Immaculate Conception, rejecting the supremacy of Rome, rejecting the filioque… Although this seems to be a parish-by-parish case, as I've also known Melkites who were pretty "latinized".

But with the weird case of the Melkites aside, Eastern Catholic churches are theologically identical to the Roman Catholic Church as far as I know (but with a different way to express it of course).

If they are in communion with Rome they have to accept Catholic Dogma, so yes

I think it's fine to check out a Byzantine church because "muh aesthetics". Attempting to officially switch rites because of "muh aesthetics" would be seriously misguided though.

My grandmother is Melkite, her family originally from turkey, then moved to Syria.

Nice, OP here. My ex-girlfriend was half Armenian, she contributed to bringing me back to Christ and sort of introduced me to eastern Christianity.
