MAN NAMED 'JESUS' SMASHES UP CHURCH…

Church priest Mark Whiting revealed Jesus had asked him forgiveness and vowed to become a monk.

Jesus Luke Ripley caused £1,000 of damage to the window. The 27-year-old then stormed into the place of worship and angrily ran around it. He then claimed he was only cross as he was being chased and demanded refuge from his mystery attackers. After the incident inside St Patrick's Roman Catholic Church in Hayling Island, Hampshire, Jesus returned with a letter apologising for his bad behaviour.

He explained: "He's written a letter to me saying he would never have broken into a church if he hadn't been chased. "He was looking for refuge and he wants to be a monk. I take it at face value. "I don't know quite what he was doing. It looked like he was drunk." Father Whiting revealed the church had just been fitted with CCTV, which caught Jesus in the act. He said: "He didn't do a huge amount of damage. "He smashed the window and got through a tiny little hole. It was quite funny watching on CCTV. "He just walked in and straight out again." Despite the damage, the priest has vowed to turn the other cheek. He added: "The window was boarded up. It was ugly – it wasn't a proper stainedglass window." Ripley, from Faversham, admitted causing criminal damage at Portsmouth Magistrates' Court. He was ordered to pay the church £978 compensation.

Sounds good to me. It is only a window, after all. Let the man become a monk and serve the Lord. The window can always be fixed.

Plenty of churches do need to be smashed (by Jesus) though. Start with the gift and coffee shops.
