The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

Hey, I have a question.

Ecclesiastes 3:1 Everything that happens in this world happens at the time God chooses.

Lamentations 3:37-38 Who has spoken and it came to pass, unless the Lord has ordained it? Do not both adversity and good come from the mouth of the Most High?…

Proverbs 16:9 The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.

Proverbs 20:24 A man’s steps are from the Lord; how then can man understand his way?

Proverbs 16:33: The lot is cast into the lap, but its every decision is from the Lord.

Proverbs 19:21: Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand.

Jeremiah 10:23: I know, O Lord, that the way of man is not in himself, that it is not in man who walks to direct his steps.

Romans 8:29 — “For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.”

Ephesians 1:5 — “Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,”

Romans 8:29 — “For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.”

I Peter 1:2 — “Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.”

Romans 8:28–30: We know that in everything God works for good with those who love him, who are called according to his purpose. For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the first-born among many brethren. And those whom he predestined he also called; and those whom he called he also justified; and those whom he justified he also glorified.

Ephesians 1:11 In [Christ] we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will

These quotes seem to point to Yahweh predestining all things, or controlling all things or not allowing anything that is not his will.

If it is the case that these passages are true how do we have freewill? It seems to me we either have freewill or he controls us. How could we even go against his will?

God doesn't have his hand on all things at all times. He said that he would send his Son to die, so that event was unstoppable. But he also didn't comment on a lot of things. You can go and sin if you wish to do so. Or choose how you will amuse yourself during your free time.

Not being able to stop something that is foretold doesn't mean you don't have free will. That's like saying "I tried to cut this onion but my mom didn't let me, therefore I don't have free will".

http://theanguillian.com/2016/05/positive-living-nothing-can-happen-without-gods-permission/ According to this and every other Christian I've talked to God allows nothing that is not his will.

>>741631

Which doesn't make sense because you would have to ask permission to ask permission if you had to ask permission for everything. I think that everything is his will is a more logically sound hypothesis.

My post still applies.

>But doesn't he have to allow everything? Doesn't the article say that?

Yes.

But also he said that he would give us free will and free thoughts. If we don't have free will there's no point in glorifying god since its not legitimate praise.

Go do something utterly inane or useless if you wish, you'll see you're able to do it. but please don't sin.

> God doesn't have his hand on all things at all times.

yeah, we're gonna have to stop you right there, anon

< Christ… is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.

-''Colossians 1:15-17

if Christ took His hand off anything at any time, it would cease to be

~

anywise, OP; what you're asking about is whether Man has absolute and complete 'Libertarian Free Will', and the Scriptures tell us that natural man does have an ability to choose, but he is a slave to his sin nature, and thus always chooses to follow his heart which is deceitful above all things – whereas God reveals Himself in Scripture as being the only One who has absolute freedom to do what He wants (Psalm 115:3) and thus in His Sovereign freedom, He both ordains everything that comes to pass, but also employs it to further His own purposes to glorify Himself

here, this might be helpful to ye

I'm pretty sure God didn't order me to go to the kitchen and grab some orange juice just now, so I'm afraid that quote doesn't have anything to do with what I said

C'mon anon.

84e2b3  No.741641

>>741638

sorry, anon, but if you reject the Scripture's declaration that in Him you move and live and have your being, then you don't really qualify as either a Christian or as someone with the ability to speak on this subject

>>741641

Oh great another anon with poor textual interpretation saying other people aren't Christian. This drives me up the wall since there is literally no excuse for this. People can go to school for free in most places, and you have access to the internet so you must at least be mid class.

Anyways I am going to explain what I meant and what the verse you quoted meant.

>>741628

>God doesn't preordinate that you would do a sick backflip on 2nd grade because that doesn't matter!

>Colossians 1:15-17

>God keeps the fabric of the world together and without him it would break apart

There is NO contradiction between either of those speeches.

That's what I thought. Maybe God is working through me, giving me good intuition. It's happened ( I forget exactly how many times) I think about 3 times.

855e3c  No.741654

>>741649

That's cool and all but you still haven't explained what Colossians 1:15-17 has to do with my post.

Actually nevermind that, I've had my fair share of stubborn people firing their guns at people early and then refusing to admit that they were wrong(Even the verse you quoted just now is irrelevant and actually could be applied to you because you carelessly said I wasn't Christian)

Also, it seems OP has replied to my post

I'm going to be leaving this thread now, goodbye.

I'm not trusting this unless you at least post biblical evidence for these claims.

7cb428  No.741965

Per Martin Luther there is nothing in the bible that permits us to peer deeply into these matters (the nature of God)

eb5e03  No.741980

God already knows what choices you have and which one you will pick. God is outside of time, so He is not limited by past, present, or future. He knows who will chose to follow Him, and who will not. Some hearts are hardened, some are softened. Knowing this does not undo free will, it is simply that something outside of time is mostly beyond our comprehension. And God is allowed to make changes in our lives. He is God. Doesn't change that we have free will.

To fedoras out there: if you were driving and had a choice to make on which way to turn for going to the same location, a choice that inconsequential to your perception, but one of them will lead to your death, would you rather God suggest in your mind to take the one that would spare you or allow you to die?

Not looking forward to it honestly.
