I'm actually curious, how does one even know if being influenced by demons?

I've got this feeling for most of my life, what if I'm being held back by a demon and leading me to poor choices, impeding me ever achieving anything decent, or if its just my own faults, lack of motivation and sins, how would I even know?

Really this one has some depth to it. Demonic possessions don't just come and go and the person in question may have taken part in it due to their own evil. The sensible answer to this would probably be "Its complicated".

To use a simplified example, a devout christian is unknowingly drugged with a strong hallucinogenic and murders someone in the midst of its effect. The catholic view in this case would be that no sin was committed by the christian in this case, as there was no control over their actions, and they didn't do anything to put them in that situation.

Compare that to a different case, the same christian knowingly takes the drug. In that case he would be found guilty of a sin because while knowing the effects and risks, still took them.
