The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

Will you pray this with me today?

aye, sure - i'm in accord with all of that

… though i could similarly pray an amended version of the last line

< ''Delightful it is to live, on a rowdy board, with unquiet incels, serving the King of Kings'

It's a real shame what's happened to Iona abbey, the entry point of Christianity into Scotland, founded by St. Columba. It's been run by a new-age political activist cult for a while now. Some of the stuff on their website is just awful

I used to pray from a book published by one of their associates in Northumbria. It was pretty weird, but sadly I feel like the times I would pray from that was the time I was praying the most.

I wouldn't worry about it, I don't know that book but there might not necessarily be anything wrong with it. It's just a bit freaky looking at this 'Iona Community' and seeing who's in control these days at the site of an ancient monastery.

After my last post I wondered if I had been a bit hasty in calling them a new-age cult, but I looked over their site and some of their social media stuff and it's pretty clear that they've subverted a Christian message to push far-left politics. The stuff about their capital-R 'Rule' on their website just seems a bit cultish to me. It's still a beautiful place to visit

I am not Catholic and certainly not an expert, but my understanding is that most monasteries have a rule. Iona obviously started under the Rule of St. Columba, but at some point turned to the rule of St. Benedict. I hope we can continue to venerate him, his simple approach to life, and the Christ he worshipped.

Thank you for clearing that up - I'm not Catholic either so I don't know so much about that stuff. Even with that in mind, it's no longer a real active monastery and the organisation that occupies the space now seems more concerned with politics than core Christian teachings

Sad to see that. Colmcille (Columba's "real" name) was authentic and devout. Im descended from Picts, and Im thankful that he was a missioary to my ancestors. I pray that Iona is reclaimed for its true purpose.
