my whole response is based on the assumption that you understand Christianity and Christmas being the birth of Jesus already, so I’m just gonna talk about fun practices people do. I assume you know the Bible story and are gonna go to church
Christmas tree lots should be everywhere, unless you’re living in a place where evergreens don’t commonly grow, in which case many just get artificial trees
Get gifts for your loved ones
Manger scenes are a common religious Christmas practice, get one of those
People drink lots of hot cocoa around this time, as well as eggnog. It’s also a time of a lot of baking, making cookies and ginger bread houses
Your local theater probably has a play of A Christmas Carol, maybe worth going. Definitely worth it if you’ve never heard the story before i don’t know if a Turkish Muslim would be aware of it, but it’s a beautiful story about a man who is visited by ghosts on Christmas Eve to teach him to turn his life around with the years he has left. A lot of iconic and interesting stuff in the story. if nobody is putting on a play, go check out the Alistair Sim or George C Scott’s movie versions
Speaking of theater, go see if you can find a Nutcracker ballet production near you. Another traditional Christmas story
You should watch A Charlie Brown Christmas and How The Grinch Stole Christmas (the 1966 cartoon version, not the crummy other versions). They’re both cute cartoons that have ran for years about characters learning the true meaning of Christmas
Christmas lights, you don’t need to go overboard but they’re fun to put up
Put on a nice Bing Crosby Christmas album. Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, and Elvis Presley also all made great Christmas albums
Get yourself a Christmas wreath, they’re a nice little decoration to have
You might see people caroling, going around door to door singing Christmas songs. It’s nice to have some cookies or something for them, or even to join them
Also, remember these are just suggestions, you don’t need to do any of this or spend any money. Christmas isn’t meant to be a time for spending money, but this stuff is all fun to do, especially when you’re only gonna be doing this once a year
And as I said in the beginning of the post, I’m just giving you random fun stuff cause I assume you understand the religious dimension of the holiday. If you don’t, skip all the junk I just went over and go read your Bible (especially the first chapters of Matthew and Luke), then talk to your priest/pastor
