"Their land is full of idols; they bow down to the work of their hands, to what their fingers have made." - Isaiah 2:8

"He cuts down cedars or retrieves a cypress or oak. He lets it grow strong among the trees of the forest. He plants a laurel, and the rain makes it grow. It is used as fuel for burning; some of it he takes and warms himself, he kindles a fire and bakes bread. But he also fashions a god and worships it; he makes an idol and bows down to it." - Isaiah 44:15

"Their idols are silver and gold, made by the hands of men. They have mouths, but cannot speak; they have eyes, but cannot see; they have ears, but cannot hear; they have noses, but cannot smell; they have hands, but cannot feel; they have feet, but cannot walk. They cannot utter a sound with their throats." - Psalm 115:5-7

"Yet My people have forgotten Me. They burn incense to worthless idols that make them stumble in their ways on the ancient roads and walk on bypaths instead of the highway." - Jeremiah 8:15

"Do not bow down before their gods or worship them or follow their practices. You must demolish them and break their sacred stones to pieces." - Exodus 23:24

Seriously, how can you be a Catholic, read these verses, and not cringe at yourselves? You are making idols wood and gold and silver and you bow down to them, you burn incense before them, you kiss them, you make them into other gods. Stop it! Worship the one Triune God alone!

Gen 33.3

Was Jacob an idolater? Here he is idolizing men.

Imagine not actually reading the Bible in full, but just cherry picking verses out of context, accusing people of idolatry, and then thinking you're doing God's will, all the while not even being charitable enough to give other people the benefit of the doubt. It's ironic because you're following in the man-made tradition of your pastors without even realizing it.

I say this with love: you're a joke.

Read the Second Council of Nicaea

That's not in a religious context but rather showing respect. On the other hand burning incense is equal to worship both according to the old and new testament.

Actually, most scholars consider that to be a pretty bad council. It's know in the scholarly community as using sloppy and straight up bad exegesis and weird and outright wrong interpretation of the Bible. And Cathodox and stuck with it now since it's binding in your faith.

>That's not in a religious context but rather showing respect.

This is your brain on Sola Scriptura. The idiots get up their own rear ends about how it's wrong to bow down before mere men and other such hokum. Then when it's proven scripturally that actually it's ok to bow before mere men so long as you're not worshiping them, that's when they start making ad hoc rationalizations like "oh well it's not in a religious context it's just showing respect, but not like those evil Cathodoxes they're not showing respect to saints they're LITERALLY WORSHIPING IDOLS"

>On the other hand burning incense is equal to worship both according to the old and new testament.

First of all, no it isn't. Incense is used in worship, but it itself is not "equal to worship". It's offered to God and symbolically represents the prayers of the people. Maybe you if you low church heretics actually knew what worship was you wouldn't be so terrified of incense and religious art.

>>732952

>weird and outright wrong interpretation of the Bible

In other words, the Church Fathers BTFO your stupid iconoclasm and stood up for the tradition of the Church as it was FROM THE BEGINNING. I know it doesn't jive well with your autistic understanding of the Scripture which only came about 15 centuries AFTER Christ, but I don't expect heretics to understand anything, much less Church history.

>>732964

>Man-made councils do not have authority over God

No, but God has authority over the Councils of the Church, heretic. Maybe you should read Acts 15 sometime since you think you know the Bible so well, unlike those ignorant devil-worshiping Cathodoxians, right?

>>732969

What a strong argument. I'm convinced.

>This is your brain on sola icclesia.

Read Luke 4:8

<And Jesus answered him, “It is written, “‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and him only shall you serve.’”

Here both forms of worship which Cathodox deny are confirmed to be given to anyone but God. This dulia/latria distinction isn't even biblical and was a way to let your church keep having their pretty pictures. Now, the reason why I say there is a distinction is because if we interpret it in any other way it becomes a biblical contradiction. If the Bible says you can only worship and serve your God and somewhere else someone else is being served we need to put these things in context. To harmonise scripture we then say that it is to serve in a different context. And the dulia latria distinction was brought up during second nicea. Again, a laughable council and now you're stuck with it :-p

>First of all, no it isn't.

If it wasn't then the early Christians would have had no issues burning incense to ceasar. Instead they were willing to die instead than to commit such apostasy. First, understand what the words you use mean before going on the internet and debating.

>In other words, the Church Fathers BTFO your stupid iconoclasm

What do you mean btfo? After nicea there were other councils that had more bishops present than nicea and they sided with arius than orthodox Christianity. If you mean the majority btfo'd the minority then that's not a really good example.

>What a strong argument. I'm convinced.

Cool, now shut down your computer.

What "forms of worship" are you even talking about? Do you know what worship even is?

>If it wasn't then the early Christians would have had no issues burning incense to ceasar.

If what wasn't? We don't offer incense to idols, heretic. Obviously you don't read.

But since we're speaking of the early Christians, would you like to have a nice discussion on Ignatius and Polycarp? Or how about we talk about the "graven images" found in the catacombs? Or maybe we can talk about the Didache? I'm game if you are.

>If you mean the majority btfo'd the minority then that's not a really good example.

You talking about the Robber Council? Obviously you don't know understand how this works.

Who do you think formulated the Trinity and made it into an understandable doctrine? It certainly wasn't Protestants, because they didn't exist at the time. The only people who actually dissented from Cathodoxy in the first millennium were the sort of heretics that mainstream Protestants themselves don't want anything to do with. The so-called "invisible church" of Protestantism lived up to its name and wasn't found anywhere. I guess my point is this: why trust these Protestants (this group of people who appeared from nowhere after many centuries of Apostolic tradition) to be able to accurately pick and choose what parts of sacred tradition are true and which are heresy. You guys can't even agree on that subject much of the time.

Without reading the thread, I'm guessing through 'muh latria-dulia' cognitive dissonance
