the reason it's younger boys usually is to encourage possible vocations to the priesthood

however if there are no others and you wouldn't be "hogging a spot" as it were i say go for it, there's not really any such thing as "too old"… ever seen a papal mass with those grown man acolytes

In the extraordinary form, typically young men around 18-25 are chosen. My parish only ever uses children when we need someone to be crucifer or torch bearer. Even in the ordinary form I serve that too.

So just ask if you can. If they say no youre too old,get another parish because then they dont care about vocations

Most servers dont become priests including myself. All Im saying is that servers have always been young men rather than children, and the reasom was so young men can get a taste of priesthood.

It is not a child's job at all, amd I'd recommend serving tbh. You'll appreciate the mass so much more seeing it from that point of view

yeah this is what i was also thinking as well. i'll talk to the priest about it next time i go to confession (if i have the balls to) or is that not appropriate? its the only time i ever talk to him

No. Alter servers are supposed to be men but because of economia of conscription and work, men weren't available and boys were used. An alter server is a minor order and thus is either a clergyman or a layman acting as a clergyman.
