The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

Has the divide between catholics and reformed finally been bridged?

This is disturbing because this moron has a church.

Wow, that hurt to watch.

John Calvin gave all the credit to the Gnostic Augustine in that book and also credits his salvation to his infant baptism ,

try finding that in scripture , no wonder he got it all wrong

Calvin's so based that he appears twice in the church history book section on Amazon.

All (historical) Protestants are basically Augustine Catholics imho…who sort of revolted at Thomism and the same innovations that brought about the schism from Orthodox.

How if they have different opinions about justification and free will? Calvin pushes the doctrine of free will of the church (augustinian) and takes it to the absurdum.

I don't know of it was Luther or someone close to him but they said that although they thought Augustine was cool, he was with no doubt the father of Catholic theology and he didn't support any of their views.

Funny they even mention Gnostics cause Prots are actually Gnostics

I’ll elaborate for him: he’s wrong. He doesn’t know what a gnostic is.

Thomistic metaphysics proved more valuable to the reformers than to Rome which is why she abandoned Thomas in the Counter-Reformation in favor of Molina's new teaching. Of course, these days every papist's a Thomist, but this wasn't the case a few centuries ago, and the prominence he now has in Protestant thought is due to tradition, not Roman influence.

>I don't know of it was Luther or someone close to him but they said that although they thought Augustine was cool, he was with no doubt the father of Catholic theology and he didn't support any of their views.

I'm gonna guess neither given that the early Lutherans cited Augustine almost as much as (and sometimes even more than) the bible. That sounds much more like an Anabaptist, who generally disdained all things old and traditional. Also, the reformers used the term 'Catholic' with exclusive reference to themselves.

Why is he pronouncing it "Paah-pacy," and "Paydee-oh baptism?"

OSAS was first believed by Gnostics. Prots say they believe what the Early Church believed. The only early "Christians" that believed what Prots do are Gnostics.

Okay, so you don’t know what Gnostics are. Thanks.

Tertullian's description of gnostic heretics seems eerily applicable to Protestants.

4fa135  No.727708

>>727694

Okay, since I need to spell it out

>Gnostics: secret doctrine, only the “elite” gets saved

>Protestants: extremely open about all doctrine, try to spread salvation to as many people as they can

Gnosticism isn’t a list of doctrines, it refers to a way they believe God redeems/interacts with humanity. Remember Tertullion is only speaking about certain Gnostic groups, and what he says they believe doesn’t apply to all Gnostic groups (for instance, the Mandaens and the Cathars). By your logic, since most Gnostics believe Jesus is the savior, all Christians are Gnostics.

>In short, all heresies, when thoroughly looked into, are detected harbouring dissent in many particulars even from their own founders. The majority of them have not even churches. Motherless, houseless, creedless, outcasts, they wander about in their own essential worthlessness.

Maybe not gnostics, but still heretics. Though, even some prots have noticed the similarities between the two.
