The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

Let's read the bible, one chapter at a time.

Genesis VI

1. And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them,

2 That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.

3 And the Lord said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.

4 There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.

5 And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

6 And it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.

7 And the Lord said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.

8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.

9 These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.

10 And Noah begat three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

11 The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.

12 And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth.

13 And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.

14 Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch.

15 And this is the fashion which thou shalt make it of: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits.

16 A window shalt thou make to the ark, and in a cubit shalt thou finish it above; and the door of the ark shalt thou set in the side thereof; with lower, second, and third stories shalt thou make it.

17 And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that is in the earth shall die.

18 But with thee will I establish my covenant; and thou shalt come into the ark, thou, and thy sons, and thy wife, and thy sons' wives with thee.

19 And of every living thing of all flesh, two of every sort shalt thou bring into the ark, to keep them alive with thee; they shall be male and female.

20 Of fowls after their kind, and of cattle after their kind, of every creeping thing of the earth after his kind, two of every sort shall come unto thee, to keep them alive.

21 And take thou unto thee of all food that is eaten, and thou shalt gather it to thee; and it shall be for food for thee, and for them.

22 Thus did Noah; according to all that God commanded him, so did he.

Notes

1. The most obvious question from this chapter is what were the giants (or Nephilim) and who were the sons of God that married human women

Some people think sons of god refer to goof people and thus the good line of Seth intermarrying with Cain's descendants

Others think sons of God refers to angels. My big issue with this interpretation is if this is possible, why did it never happen after the flood.

2. What's with this ark - can an ark really house two of every living thing + enough food for everything. Especially 300 cubits by 50 cubits. A cubit in modern measurements is 46 centimeters - so basically 138 meters by 23 meters.

This seems like an example of hyperbole to me.

What are your thoughts

3. It sounds a lot like this great flood was a real event. There are stories of it from cultures stretching from Asia to Africa to the Americas

This website has collected flood stories from across cultures:

http://www.talkorigins.org/faqs/flood-myths.html

interesting things that many stories have in common is

1. a few people building an ark to save themselves

2. the flood happening because of the wickedness of mankind

450 square cubits (675 square feet) would be enough wouldn't it?

What I want to know is why God says man's days shall be 120 years yet people still lived past this even post-flood in the next few chapters.

God is always against good seed mixing with bad seed. It led to the issues of Noah’s time and God ordered the Israelites not to breed with the Canaanites. Call me racist but I say it’s even more racist than racist. Even within the same ethnicity God is against a good Irishman marrying a bad Irishwoman and vice versa. Not even /pol/ is as redpilled as God.

>always

Dunno. What do you think of this?

1 Corinthians 7:13 And if a woman has a husband who is not a believer and he is willing to live with her, she must not divorce him.

I think the Catholic Church disagrees with Paul and they must both be believers to be married in the first place.

>1. The most obvious question from this chapter is what were the giants (or Nephilim) and who were the sons of God that married human women

If you recall in chapter 1&2 there was two creations of man, one with the beast of the field and the other was specifically Adam. When they both interbreed they produced the Nephilim.

Also we don't really know the word "Nephilim" even means "giants". It was just assumed by later translators, because the sons of anak were viewed as tall.

That's not quite right. Both parties have to be baptized in order for the marriage to be a true sacrament, but marriage between one baptized and one not baptized can still be a valid marriage.

As for the passage from 1 Corinthians, this is covered under the "Pauline privilege" in Catholic doctrine. Marriage to an infidel is ordinarily indissoluble, but it can be dissolved in certain circumstances. This is explained in this Catholic Encyclopedia article.

Wtf, God is quite clear on the matter, to the point of rewarding those like Phineas who murder mixers. Why are there no standards in the church? Am I living in some devil constructed bizzaro world?

Read New Testament again. Just do it.

In the New Testament Jesus claims He’s the God of the Old Testament.

Correct.

But also ceremonial law is gone. You're not going to be rewarded for killing Mixers anymore.

1. Nephilim could easily be the people of Nifilheim, the gods of the greeks, romans, and norse (with their names shifting). If pre-flood DNA was diverse enough to allow for humanity to couple with angels, the inbreeding of survivors could bottleneck the diversity enough to make the two incompatible.

2. It's not two of every living thing. You don't need pairs of lions, tigers, panthers, cheetahs, pumas… just a pair of cats.

3. The other thing to consider is that the Bible is really only talking about the origin of one line of people, therefore it is possible that there are others in the flood times not written about who saw Noah, didn't think he was a complete loon, and when they got back to their homeland they built their own insurance policy and took two of every kind of animal on their arks. This would explain why there are flood stories all around the world, and if one bloke was from Australia, he could save the kangaroos and this would explain why there's no fossil records of a great kangaroo migration to Australia.

Hello, Judiazer.

1.

>Who were the sons of God

The sons of Adam that walked with God, but fell when they went to daughters of men who did not walk with God.

>2 That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.

3 And the Lord said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.

Directly after the "sons of God" slept with daughters of un-Godly men, only then does God say His spirit shall not remain with them (they lose His Grace), and that over the course of time, the life-spans of men shall decrease (this took generations, even long after the flood).

The "sons of God" are not angels, and angels of God cannot fall after The Fall, when Satan and his angels rebelled.

>Some people think sons of god refer to goof people and thus the good line of Seth intermarrying with Cain's descendants

so, yes. I also like that term, "goof people".

>This seems like an example of hyperbole to me.

It's an example of allegory, for the Church interprets it as a prophecy of the Church of Christ.

>It sounds a lot like this great flood was a real event

Absolutely.
