Why do so many people think heaven is a physical place as we imagine places in our world? Heaven is being with God, it's not some land of fun and ponies and seeing all of your friends. It's the end of man's finite run in a finite realm and his entrance into eternity with God. It's indescribable, and nobody knows what it really is. It can only be rightly sensed as the infinite unity with God. Man must die, he does not ascend into some heaven as defined by people who can not conceive of the infinite in all of its glory.

We know that we will have our bodies raised from the dead and glorified, it's obviously a higher state of complexity but it's won't be completely abstract either

It says resurrection of the dead, that sounds physical to me. To me it always sounded like humans were created to be physical entities, not non-physical spiritual entities. So the resurrection is a bodily resurrection. It's just the world will be put back the way God originally made it - like the garden of eden with no suffering or death

In the intermediate state the righteous will be joyfully awaiting the resurrection in the presence of the Bosom of Abraham, while the wicked shall experience the flames of torment in a separate chasm, but these flames shall not be physical but spiritual because they shall be the love of God torment the soul of the wicked.

The resurrection will be the true after life, when the quick and the dead will be judged at the sound of a trumpet, in an instant, in the twinkling of an eye. The Lord, sitting on his throne, will separate the sheep from the goats. The sheep shall go on the right, the goats on the left. Each person will be judged according to his or her deeds. If such a person is found in the grace of God, they shall be exalted to everlasting life on the new heavens and new earth, in the holy city of new Jerusalem paved with streets of gold.
